I first tried to play this game not that many years after it came out on an extremely crap PC and gave up, less than impressed, about a third of the way in as it chugged along even at 320X240 resolution. So you'll understand my expectations weren't that high on hitting the New Game button this time around. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. The horsepower available to modern PCs means you can read more run this game maxed out and the processor barely bothers to shrug its shoulders. And all these years on, it somehow looks fantastic. But that's not the key point. This game draws you in and - I'm now entering the last third - keeps you there. It's remarkable.

This is the shooter game that I cut my teeth on. This game opened me up to a whole new type of game. For me, there was no Quake or Doom... there was only UNREAL!
The plot is simple: You are a prisoner. Your transport ship crashes on an unknown planet and you must escape the wreckage and find a way off this rock. But the alien tribes controlling this rock are not very friendly to read more
outsiders. As you progress, you get bigger and better guns and even your standard sidearm can be upgraded (first time this was ever done n a game to my knowledge).
One of the accolades of this game was the lighting. When Quake and Doom were still dimmly lighting corridors with white and orange, UNREAL used every color light that was posible to accent building features, point out plot-critical areas, and enhance mood.
For all this, the price is a steal, but UNREAL comes with it's own level editor called UnrealEd. You can tinker away to your hearts delight making and modifying levels all while learning valuable game design techniques.
MUST OWN!

I remember playing Unreal when it came out, my old computer chugging as hard as it could, to render those shiny floors. I never considered Unreal a genre changing FPS like Half Life or Doom. Nothing it does was really new, but its elements combine extremely well in a very well presented format. More importantly, it is very fun to play. The weapons, now all well-worn, each have read more their own specialties and quirks making for a very fun and balanced load-out. The enemies are interesting, and the game-play is fast paced and flows very well from place to place. Definitely worth a second look for those who remember it, and, if you've never played Unreal before, then it's still a fun and diverting game that's worth the price tag.
