Many newer games sold by the devs directly are also redeemable on Steam (FTL and Primordia for instance), but not on GOG, even when available here. Having a DRM-free version from the devs and a Steam key for backup is quite nice, but many, I'm sure, would prefer GOG over Steam if they had the option. Also, that would obviously bring many new users to GOG.

Absolutely this!!! Lily Through The Looking Glass is a perfect example: I funded the Kickstarter, now I'm learning that, although I do get a DRM-free version through the Humble store, I'd rather have it sitting on my GOG shelf next to my other games. Please, GOG, make this happen. There's simply no reason not to, when your competitors have been doing it for a while.
