@ScreamingFalcon I think what fengor was getting at, is that the kids would pickpocket items from you that could be relevant to quests. While the UK censored version (unaltered by fan patches at least) doesn't show the kids, they are actually still there at the doors (you can still see some of their *sniffing* text), still pickpocketing your items, with no way to retrieve them.
Actually both games can be "modded" (I use the word in parenthesis as all you need to do is apply some patches) to remove censorship and restore some removed content to boot. I assume a lot of players are aware of this, but please keep in mind that GOG is also bound by legal restrictions on how they release games. (There's a reason Freespace 1 & 2 don't use the SCP engine for instance).
Actually, both versions had broken quests. About the only difference is that the UK version didn't let you kill kids and therefore couldn't send bounty hunters after your butt because you killed too many of them. The quest in The Boneyard was and has always been broken. Look at it this way: at least it's not the German version where the kids weren't present at all.
Hope that we can get fallout 1 US when the right of Interplay expired. LOL
Maybe Interplay can't or doesn't want to give GOG the uncensored version. This is possibly completely out of their hands.
I think thread title should be altered to "no censored games on GOG", not just in re Fallout. I despise censorship, be it language, nudity, sex, violence, drug use, child killing or whatever. It's MY game, let me do what the hell I want in it. I don't want other people deciding what I can "handle".
Please no censored games, please. Children are a part of that game world and removing them benefits no one. It's something a player might try once but it isn't really usefull or memorable. The game actually punishes players for even accidentally killing a child. Of all the reasons people love Fallout, "I get to kill kids" is bottom of the list.
the censored uk version actually breaks quests.
@DocAthlon It's a change to an existing game, so no. Fallout 2 is actually uncut on GOG, but the censored UK version of Fallout 1 is present, as it has more bugfixes that weren't released for the uncut US version. As little as the ability to shoot children adds to Fallout, a lot of us are against the idea of censorship in general, and would prefer an uncut version of such a classic, genre-defining game, even if it's a little buggier. Maybe a choice would be nice?
Shouldn't this be listed as a"Requested Game"?
