Put back the Hi-res/SVGA files in Larry 6/Stop removing "useless" files from releases completed
bump
Perhaps they should offer the missing files separately. It would help people who don't want to download files they don't need for the game, but make them available for those who do want them.
I don't need an explanation Baggins, I know what interlacing does.... It makes an otherwise pixellated movie look pixellated AND horrible. Also fan patch be damned, it was a change in one line of the code that governs the way those old vids played, something windows allowed with ease but dos apparently didn't. It was a case where GoG didn't offer the optimum and I had to go outside of the legal way to get something they should be providing, much like Larry 6 in SVGA.
Also to explain interlace the reason they used it was. Ecause it bid artifacting and low resolution of the videos. When enlarged the lowers videos look pixelated and blocky and have smudge or square shapes that appear in sections of the shot. It simply was designed for HIdef.
Phantas 2? I thought the Sierra FMV games originally only had interlaced graphics in both windows and dos. It was the fan patches that removed interlace, iirc.
Agreed, I'd love to get the high-res version to mess about with. I had a similar issue with Phantasmagoria 2 where, after buying it here and not wanting to put up with the dos versions' interpolated video (when was that ever a good idea? :P) but having no choice for the windows version I had to download a torrent which worked quite fine in Vista after a little tweaking.
@sirprimalform I know hence why I added the stop removing "useless" files part since they remove setup files and such as they feel there not needed.
This goes along with them doing things like removing setup programs as well.
@Mau1wurf1977 I agree 100% you now how annoying it is to have to either recall what numbers to change the soundcard settings in Ultima Underworld so it doesn't try and use Roland MT sound(which dosbox does not suppourt) or have to use Pix's patcher to correct the sound everytime I reinstall the games simiply because they removed the Setup file because "we didn't need it" well guess what turns out WE DO.
Also they should involve the community more. They are often incapable of configuring DOSBox properly and unaware of missing things. We have the knowledge and they should make use of this.
Yes it's annoying when some files, like INSTALL.EXE to change the Sound Card, are missing from various games.
in hind sight I really should of put a "and" between Larry 6 and the Stop removing part instead of the /.. ah well
