OpenID
Let's not. The best part of the internet is its decentralized, quasi-anonymous nature. People who want all their accounts linked don't understand the first thing about privacy. Those who do don't want to have more of it taken from them in the name of convenience.
Great idea. With an OpenID, we could have giveaway sites like steamgifts, that forces us to have an OpenID to check activation of games. It can bring a great revenue to GOG.
I'm not proposing using the same using the same identity everywhere, I'm looking for a way to verify that I am Barefoot_Monkey on GOG. There are many sites that do this very same thing for Steam users with good results. GogPM, Ubivis's advent calender and the wiki would all have been far easier to implement if GOG had this sort of feature.
I don't see the point here. Can you enlighten what it would provide for Gog.com users and especially for Gog.com? You surely know that OpenID is for using same authentication for all the different sites based on certain amount of information issued by the OpenID providers for their users. While I understand what OpenID users would gain from having ability to login to Gog.com using their OpenID, I don't see what Gog.com would get from having that ability or being a OpenID provider. Gog.com doesn't even collect people's personal information. And that's good. OpenID is a privacy risk because of using same identity everywhere enables identifying that user on all the services associated with his OpenID and targeting that specific identity becomes a lot easier. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. I'd downvote this wish if it was possible.
