Open a GOG Ebook Store
@Apcarne ebooks are usually in ebook formats, not PDF: epub, mobi, kindle. They adjust to screen size and settings, instead of being "cut" into defined pages.

I would 100% buy drm free ebooks from GOG. I like what the last guy was saying about older tabletop sourcebooks. I would love a legit copy of the EverQuest RPG in a drm free package.
Older RPG, and Wargame books that you can't get(legally) any more.
A lot of the games already on the site have tie-in books or comics; and a lot of those are out of print. See Wikipedia's "List of novels based on video games" and "List of comics based on video games". (The latter is badly underpopulated; it's currently missing Assassin's Creed, Doom, Warcraft and probably a lot more.) Then there are the games based on (relatively obscure) books or comics; e.g. XIII and the previously mentioned Metro 2033 and Witcher.
Not a fan of PDFs myself. Nothing to do with the *book*'s "size; it's being needlessly locked into a particular formatting and pagination. Epubs are where it's at.
Do people really read PDFs of novels? Asking because I'm a newbie indie author planning to sell DRM-free copies on my own site, and the general thinking among the author community, as far as I've seen, is that no one reads PDFs because they're too big for phones or tablets, and people don't want to read a novel while sitting at a computer.
If PDFs would be expected, what size? Regular 8.5x11?
And all I have to say about the OP's suggestion is that Amazon could use *all* the competition they can get.
That is an amazing idea actually!
I'm completely for it. I believe The Witcher series should be DRM-free on GOG, as well as but not only other videogames related books such as Jane Jensen's Gabriel Knight.
It would become my no. 1 and recommended ebook store (as it is already for videogames)
Please, GOG, think about it ♥
I only vote this just for Ebooks but only if they are game related books like metro last light or extra paid content as ebook
This is a good idea. The ebook market is a lot like the games market, with Amazon instead of Steam, except that there are very few people thinking that this is a bad thing, even as Amazon's book arm keep doing things that make Steam look like... well, like GOG I guess. Amazon once cut ties with a publisher and removed all books from them from all Amazon accounts and Kindle devices. Even Steam lets you keep games they no longer sell as long as they bought it.
That said, there's Smashwords, so I'm not sure it's a market free for the taking. And if there are people who complain there are too many games coming out and stores should offer better curation... I guess if those people paid attention to the ebook market they'd jump off a bridge...
Also, Zirien, you probably won't read this, but you don't need to pay outrageous fees to get a book delivered overseas. There's a British store called Book Depository that has free worldwide delivery. I get all my dead tree "imports" from there. Of course, customs fees on your own country are on you...
Yes. Sure, there are already ebook stores, but the region limits are outrageous and gog could thrive on breaking these stupid rules. I am allowed to have a paper book sent from a different country with horrible delivery fees, but I am not allowed to buy an ebook,. It is even more ridiculous that I am not allowed to buy ebooks even from other EU countries. So yes please, I would love to buy ebooks, instead of paying a lot for delivery of paper or trying (often in vain) to find a pirated copy.
I like this idea - but GOG would be competing with the DriveThruRPG.com empire, which sells RPG gamebooks, comics, fiction, wargames, and card decks; some publishers might put their content in both places but many are not going to bother.
(Most of the PDFs at the DTRPG sites are stamped with a purchase number locked against changes but not otherwise DRM'd.)
Selling ebooks also requires extra customer service, because there's an endless string of people who want to know "how can I put this on my Kindle/iPhone" without bothering to read the instructions on their device.
I suspect an ebook store would be an impractical use of GOG's resources.
I would be your first client. I would love to see that happen.
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
I would LOVE to see this happen! I can't explain the pain I had to go through to get a Japanese e-book for my girlfriend (who is also Japanese) living in Europe, for her Kindle. New account on amazon jp, VPN, calibre, DRM... - none of which torrent-shoppers have to do! E-book publishing is still rooted in the traditions of paper books with all the stupid restrictions, which made sense a century ago, but not now.
Nobody believed DRM-free games are gonna work until GOG took the leap. We need the same for e-books! Better to start it sooner than later, and no other company is better suited to make it happen than GOG!
Arguably, GOB already exists at https://www.gutenberg.org. Of course, we will want to buy some books that are... less out of print, but it is at least a start.
Would be a fantastic addition in line with the GOG movie offerings!
I would love this (just don't tie it to Galaxy, keep that totally optional).
If it could support Kindle well enough I'd try it out.
I was just thinking of this today! Someone beat me to it it seems :P I don't actually own Ebooks, with the specific reason being I do not want DRM on my books. Please launch, uh, GOB! You could even bundle it with Galaxy for mobile devices, perhaps!
Great Idea.
A DRM-Free digital edition of "the witcher" books. <3
Good idea
Silly idea, two top book chains own all that exist(almost?) and we have libraries besides.
Well, that's not a bad idea. Well could start with game-related books that sell
Why it would be good, even though it's redundant: no extra account on another site, and easy PayPal payments. And you can buy more from a site you prefer/love/worship.
There are already countless drm-free ebook stores out there like Smashwords, Baenbooks, Storybundle, etc. So I really don't see why this is needed.
Ideally, at minimum, PDF and ePub for non-comics (PDF is easier to use on desktops but ePub can be reflowed for smaller screens much more reliably than PDF) and CBZ for comics.
(PDF is a vector layout language, sort of like SVG. ePub is a zip file containing a restricted subset of HTML. CBZ is a zip file containing sequentially-named image files.)
ePub is the standard for eReaders that everything except Kindle uses (and free tools like Calibre can convert ePub->Mobipocket) and specialized comic-reading apps work best with CBZ if they even support any other formats.
That's what Humble eBook bundles do and I love them for it.
That's a VERY good idea. I would buy tons of eBooks if only they came DRM-free and in a well-established format such as PDF.
