Notify users by email when games in their wishlists go on sale

Added byTysonCooley's avatarTysonCooley

Add the option for users to receive emails when a game from their wishlist goes on sale. When a game goes on sale, send an automated email to everyone who had the game on their wishlist. If multiple items go on sale that are in a person's wishlist, compile them into a single "these games are on sale right now" email. It would be simple, and very helpful for people who are waiting for games to go on sale before they purchase.

This should be what the wishlist does anyway. Steam took a long time to implement it but they finally did, hopefully GOG will do too.

I'd love the notice, and I miss the old prices & sales showing on wishlist screen.

I really like the way GOG doesn't go crazy sending emails every five minutes. However, the option to receive email alerts for certain events would be good. I'd sign up for alerts on wishlist sales.

Steam do this for me all the time, surely GOG should do it too! Most GOG games are inexpensive full-price, but when they get reduced I am often really willing to buy something that I have never played before ever.

I actually did expect this to be the function of the wishlist and was surprised to not have been informed of a sale. I would have bought the game during sale, but I do not have any intention of bying it for full price. Since I keep missing the sale every time, GOG can not earn money with me.

this would be great! Also it would add functionality to the wishlist and make it more useful. I would prefer this to having to sign up to their newsletter for overall discount notifications when I'm really only interested in certain titles.

If this feature were to be implemented, I would ask one thing.
Have a discount slider, that determines which point a user is emailed in regards to a wishlisted game. And have it be game specific.
i.e. If someone were to set the slider to 75%, they would not be notified of a 50% discount on said game.

In the mean time, one workaround is to use the waitlist feature on IsThereAnyDeal.com.

(You can specify which stores to watch as well as a maximum price and minimum discount.)

I contributed a userscript to ITAD a few weeks ago which makes importing your GOG wishlist a matter of two clicks.

https://github.com/ssokolow/itad_importer

(It IS linked from inside the "collection manager" dialog on ITAD, but the wishlist import is younger and the "waitlist manager" dialog hasn't been updated yet.)

Hi everyone,

I'm interested in this feature too. Rather than wait, I've decided to develop it myself. If you are interested, I've setup an early access Beta page here:

At least make it an option that can be activated/disabled. That way we can choose to get those notifications if we want them. Letting them know their wishlist games are on sale may increase profits and those wanting those games are more apt to buy them when their discounted. Personally, I see it as a win-win scenario all around.

Looks like this is almost the same as another Community Wishlist item. http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/add_the_possibility_to_remind_me_when_this_game_goes_on_sale This currently has 4618 votes, that currently has 5994 votes, that's 10612, which brings this item to #7 all time requested site features instead of splitting the votes to position #8 and #15.

All this would require is a scripting engine that would send emails/notifications on the websites to those who select the function under their account settings. I'm no programmer, but this would be possible and a good feature to have!

Several games on my wish list have gone on sale & I saw it afterwards. Steam has notified me when a wish list is on sale & half the time I bought. I like Gog better & would rather buy here.

@theobh: This would be specifically for games you want to be notified about, so not spam for every sale. It would be used for getting informed when a specific game that you want is on sale.

I disagree, If I had this I would come to the site less, and buy less I think. Wondering what is on sale or new keeps me coming back almost daily- I'm hooked. I don't want spam emails telling me every time there is something new or a sale, I want to go on my own time and look at the yummy goodies.

With Steam i dislike that feature because you can't set a threshold like "Only notify me if the price drops below the following number" or "Only 75% or more", hence it triggering even for a silly 10% discount.

With Gog however, the base price is usually already below my threshold and most sales are simply 50% so it would be nice yes.

Yes, please.
As a sporadic user with limited internet access, and who dislikes getting mail about promotions all the time, I'd like to be able to opt out of that and still know when a game that I deemed worthy of my wish list goes on sale or is part of a promotion.

Nah, part of the fun is figuring it out yourself. We can't expect businesses to EVERYTHING now...?

Then again, since Google et al do similar things (albeit with advertising crap targeted at us based on everything we've ever done online in our lives ever), I'm sure it wouldn't hurt for there to be an option to "subscribe to customised sales" or something, which would:
1) send the customer an email weekly
2) indicate ALL current games on sale and/or just the "headline" ones for that sale
3) indicate (with some kind of special note or highlight) games on someone's wishlist that have recently gone on sale.
4) (potentially) using the "other customers who bought this also liked..." which GOG can grab from every purchase we've made in the past, point to games similar to what we've grabbed before or games that GOG thinks we'll like, that are currently on sale.

The last option makes good business sense as well as helping the user, as the user may then be alerted to something that he/she didn't think of but might want to at least investigate, which may lead to a sale.

Just my $1.25 on the subject...

Yep, I was thinking this just a few moments ago and I'm glad others are too. Steam has this exact idea and it's brilliant, it makes me immediately jump to the game's store page when I get one of those emails. There's a load of games on GOG I'm not desperate to play right now and will 100% get as soon as they go on sale for any amount lower, and would love to be told somehow when that happened.
