Multiple gift codes with one multiple games purchase
I guess this is not allowed because some people use stolen credit cards and then sell the keys on some CD key shops. But to circumvent this the easiest way would be to just disable credit card options as payment method if you buy multiple copies. Another would be to add some voluntary identity verification. If you want to buy multiple copies, you need to verify your account by, for example sending a copy of your ID and having a short video chat (not with a person, but a bot that verifies it is video and that the face matches the image on the ID).
I wonder why this is not already a thing. It would make gifting games to other people much less complicated. Should definitely be a thing in 2020.
This new feature could be called as "Inventory". You buy gift codes as items to your inventory. And maybe also it could be added an option to activate game on somebody's account without action from his side? Or just he could only take simple action in notification box: accept or decline.
I would like to gift a few copies of "7 Billion Humans" to my DevOps-Team, but I can't be honestly thinking i will go multiple times thru this checkout process?!?
Would love to see this.
This feature would be a huge improvement on the gifting situation. I bought a lot of games from a promo recently, some I didn't really want, but bought them for the price reduction. Now I want to add some of them to my library and get seperate gift codes for the other games. Please GOG make this happen!
Yes, this is an issue I just encountered. It looks like has been an issue for while. I guess it wont be getting resolved any time soon.
Yep totally agreeing to this request. I want to buy gifts for diverse people and can (now) only rely to their cleverness or good will that they dont redeem all games included in one code out of stupidity or evilness. That is shitty and should be changed.
yeah, well, if by that is to benefit most the others, then GOG should implement a new feature into the current transaction/purchase system. (since people want to gift games to others)
policy #1 is...if you don't own a title, then you get the title (not gift-able)
so, when multi-selecting many items, there should be some sort of disctinction of the items into 2 groups, the ones you don't own, which will be automatically added to your shelf, and the ones you own, which must be forwarded as gifts. and yes, I agree they should provide an individual "redeem/gift code" for each individual title....
Why doesn't GOG respond to this request ? It seems to be a simple request and so simple to resolve. And to the benefit of GOG and Gifters.
Seriously. It's gone from "hah, hah, GOG, you guys sure do things your own way" to "Jesus, really, hire a developer and get this done." I've skipped buying dozens of games and skipped doing a couple giveaways in the last year just because of the irritation of the checkout system. Please, GOG. Fix this crap.
I wish I could vote on this wish again :)
I'd love for you to implement this, or otherwise perhaps a kind of "GOG points" system. When I buy a lot of gifts. such as I did in my Atari 5 giveaway, it sometimes triggers a block on my credit card due to multiple small purchases in rapid succession. Being able to place everything in one order and still get unique codes would certainly encourage me to gift more often.
Just started doing giveaways of games that I purchase. Would really love to purchase the game for myself and purchase a gift code of the same game for my giveaway under the same transaction. Just would save time and be a lot less hassle.
yes. The only reason I didn't buy for example this sale www.gog.com/pick_5_pay_10 was the inability to split the order and say gift some of the games to others while keeping 1 for myself unless I already owned all the rest. I had envisioned giving 2 games to one friend 2 to another and one for me.
Sorry, I just noticed I need to touch up my post below: "once I confirm the purchase GOG adds the checked games to my shelf and any surplus copies plus the unchecked games get sent to my mail _AS INDIVIDUAL CODES_." It's important to be clear when describing system requirements. :)
It could just have individual "add to my shelf" checkboxes for each game during checkout. If I already own the game the checkbox stays disabled; once I confirm the purchase GOG adds the checked games to my shelf and any surplus copies plus the unchecked games get sent to my mail. I can handle them any way I want from then on. As a systems architect myself I can tell: unless the whole system was really badly designed - which it does not appear to be - this shouldn't be too hard to implement.
This would be great. It would cost GOG less (processing fees, etc), take less time for gifters and just generally be a great thing. Might be a bit hard to add - there's some times when I want to give multiple games to the same person, so you couldn't just dump all the games in a gift order into multiple codes. The backend changes for this might be massive, though. It's likely that there are a lot of places where games from an order are all tied together, and it's difficult to know how much trouble this kind of a change would cause.
Great idea! Would be good to be able to select that as an option when you complete your purchase. At the very least make it clear that the games will share the same gift code. As of now it looks like it's not even mentioned in the support section.
I had to contact support when I accidentally bought a group of gifts this way. They did fix it for me, would have been nicer if it asked if you wanted multiple gift codes or a single one.
I had this problem before, so, voted.
Cool idea, I support it!
Very good idea for gifting, voted :)
It's just common sense, good marketing and good customer service!
+1 :)
Other sites and stores have this, so it would be good of GOG did too.
Agreed.
Why the hell does this have so few votes?!?!!
I agree with this also. It would be much easier to buy once and then be able to split the batch into seperate codes :)
Let's make it easier for giveaways, and harder for generous folks to confusingly give one person a billion games meant for 20 people.
Absolutely agree. GOG is losing boatloads of money on PayPal and credit card fees by doing it the way they do. I also gift on GamersGate and it's a dream compared to GOG.
Yes, that would be great. I like giving away games here, but it takes a lot of time when gifting to more than one or two people, and my bank statement makes me cringe (and there's no way I'm letting my better half see it) - not because of the money but all the entries.. It would also be nice to have 'generic gift codes' bought in the same way. That is, you could buy two gift codes for $5.99 each and one $9.99 for a contest/competition, and then the winner (and runner-ups) could pick they game themselves.
Yes please.
It is a valid request and I don't think it's that hard to code too.
It would probably cost less in processing fees, too, which is good for both GOG and those unlucky customers who get pwnt by their banks.
Agreed. It would be an alternative to having to ask for individual codes to the GOG support (which I have understood is the only workaround now)
And another thought, this could allow making a repeat gift code. So if you put 5 Anachronox's in one code, each redeem would redeem one copy. So if the code was posted publicly, 5 people would get Anachronox from that one code. Or it could be PM'd to someone, they redeem it and can then pass on the same code to the next person. Best chain-mail ever! :)
Maybe it would be best if when you get to the checkout stage, you can put a "group number" against each purchase and if they are gifts, each group number gets a gift code for those games. For example, SimonG's case would be: 1 Anachronox 2 Anachronox 3 Anachronox 4 Anachronox 5 Anachronox .. which would result in 5 codes, each one containing Anachronox. or 1 Anachronox 1 Gothic 2 Normality 2 Ultima 8 .. would result in 2 gift codes. The first containing Anachronox and Gothic, the second one Normality and Ultima 8.
I'd also like to be able to gift and buy for myself at the same time. If we could add multiple copies to the cart at the same time, this should be solved by checking one as gift and the other as standard purchase.
