Keep store page for removed games (with disabled purchasing)
This would be an excellent feature. Maybe it could be implemented as a pdf of the original store page as a game extra?
Yes I was looking for this. Why should we have to go to archive.com to see the description of my already bought games. That's stupid, not even steam is that stupid. Keep the store page! Don't delete history. Don't delete reviews.
Having the store pages of removed games, but with purchasing disabled, and possibly located elsewhere on gog.com, would be my ideal solution.
An alternative, with sometimes subpar results, is to save, then view those removed pages on archive.org
Actually, Amazon removes store pages sometimes too. Equally annoying there, though.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRP!!!
I agree that the pages should remain available, but they should not be in the "store" per-se. Perhaps a separate section of the store, something like "Museum of Past Releases" or the like?
I typically download a copy of the store page for anything I buy... in case GoG disappears tomorrow... but it would sure be nice to have that info online (with all the media links, etc).
That's a really good idea and both consumer and business-friendly as well (like Amazon the keeps the item page available even if the item itself is out of stock for indefinite period of time - for customers it provides all the necessary information, such as item description and specifications, as well as history of its existence and user feedback on it, and for business it helps keeping track of how much of interest and traffic the "out of stock" item is producing, so it may help copyright owners to bring it someday back for sale.
In the Galaxy client there is an option to switch between headlines and description. In the game page go to the overview part, it will be on the right-hand side. But that spot does not show system requirements, so if you need those you do need to head to the store page.
But umm... if legal technicalities say "no store page at all" then there will be either option #1 GOG. is up, but no store page, or option #2 no store page OR GOG.com to be had.
A small section on the site dedicated to the games that have been removed from this service would be a good idea, with all information retained from when the game was available in the store. But it should be separate from the active game store.
Would be nice for a quick overview of the game..if you purchased before..
Please delete spam pages for reported spam (with disabled viewing)
If I remember correctly, Steam does have pages for removed games - doing similar thing on GOG should be possible.
It really would be useful to have the pages remain, at least in some form, marked as not available. The Internet is so quick to rewrite history - it's a bad tendency, one that should be noted and resisted. There were games here, people bought them, they are no longer here - that is fact, not a legal liability. It sure would be good to be able to check the details of the purchases we've made.
And I will add that these pages should be only available to people that already have the game (so new people will not see the page and think it's available)
Heads up, the next 20 or so "comments" are spam posted in a couple of different languages.
Especially the users reviews, so much helpful really.
I truly hope Gog would consider the idea.
I agree with Shambhala. Don't have them be searchable but when you have so many games on your shelf it's kind of nice to be able to quickly go to the store page (even if you can't buy anything) and quickly check what the game is again.
Seconded, the page could be accessible only through its link on your shelf, and not be searchable.
Surely there is plenty of information that can be displayed that cannot in principle violate any agreements. Especially if it is for people who already paid for it. They just need a possibility to disable/hide certain content/features.
Reportedly there might be legal problems with keeping the whole thing: www.gog.com/forum/fallout_series/reviews_link_broken/post6
Great idea. Also some short info about why it was removed would be nice.
I'd like that a lot! With a huge backlog, it can help to view the store page to know what the game was about and why you bought it, when deciding what game from the backlog to start.
Ignore my previous comment, i just found it.
YES PLEASE! I want to get SWAT3 (best in the series, i say), but when i finally could afford it, i noticed that it is not on the GOG games list anymore.
i second that!
Would also be worth coupling it with a 'Register Interest' button, that way it can also feed back how many people would be interested in the game should it return as well as an alert if it returns.
I have 2 good points to make for you about this.
- First it will help current members remember some old and long forgotten favorite games.
- Second and more to your advantage is while people like myself are looking for an old game they want to play again on one of the big search engines it will lead them to this site. Even if you don't have the game currently they will most likely bookmark the page and buy something you do have.
I very much agree with this. I hate when these pages just go into oblivion.
". . .providing a very similar page to that accessible at least to users who have purchased the game. "
This would be useful!
Good idea. System requirements in particular are information we'll still have a use for, e.g. if someone has bought a laptop with Intel integrated graphics and needs to know whether a previously purchased GOG game is compatible.
