Fair Price / Regional Price Badge
Much has changed and much more will. It is all about "shareholder value".
I won't trust them anymore. One of the main reasons for supporting gog got buried. Once it was one for all ... now its all they can get. Just to maximize profit.
That's actually a pretty good idea.
And/or: add the "original" (e.g. US Dollars) price for the game next to the regional one. That way the customer can tell straight away if they're getting ripped off. Then the customer can just log-in via a proxy or something and get the "best" price.
Technically GOG will still be upholding its end of the bargain. And since apparently the "publishers/developers" asked for this, GOG shouldn't care which currency/market you download it from, as long as they've made "reasonable attempts" at determining your location (which should ideally be a form option when you download the file, indicating your "location"). He he he... :)
This isn't a bad idea. Since some people have complained about the regional pricing instead of local price, this would give them piece of mind,
Oh it actually existed already? I've actually jsut added a similar wish to this one, anyway, upvoted.
@cmdr_flashheart: Then have the badge say "global price" or "worldwide price" or "universal price" instead. The principle still remains.
(And if VAT causes the price to vary regionally, then call it a "base price" rather than a "price". It's still not the same thing as "publishers earn different per-unit profits from different countries".)
I have to say, including a badge like this seems like a good way to piss off their partners. Do other stores include "fair price" badges. I think I read something about Humble Store doing, but I am not sure. If stores other than GOG do it, then I see no problem in including something like this.
Their current plan is to make *everything* priced regionally but as I understand it, it is not a closed deal yet. Hopefully, the community will be able to turn the tide and strike a compromise to leave the classic games alone and only regionalize some big and new releases, if they absolutely have to...
> "So there will be almost no significant change in the pricing".
So there is no need to change any prices. Unless the real intent is to hide a planned ripoff...
Regional pricing requires more currencies to be taken into account. All games will be priced in the regional currency. However asfaik these prices will respect the actual worth of the respective currency. So there will be almost no significant change in the pricing, at least not now...
"Read the new GOG's post: All games will get regional price. Old games too. :-/ " No need for fair price badge... What the hell happened with gog... it were 3 games, now it is all of them (though it will not be 1$=1€ for them, at least not now, who knows what will happen next).
Read the new GOG's post: All games will get regional price. Old games too. :-/
They can make a badge for "fair" and "unfair" regional pricing. I.e. using local currencies doesn't yet make it unfair, if the value roughly remains the same based on the currency rate. But if for some countries the price is disproportionate, then it's a different story.
I'd support the motion, but today's announcement that every game from the catalog is going to get regional pricing 'by default' makes this a moot point.
I add my vote, but cannot believe they will dare to accept this request. Burying deep all references to the forsaken ideals is the way they will go.
Profitability rules, and the memory is as weak as some ideals...
Vented a while ago on the other thread. I'm OK with a big obvious Regional Price badge and also a clear visual cue (icon of shame) before companies that push regional pricing.
It should be at least the minimum GOG need to do.No hiding of that regional pricing unfairness.
The first regional priced game is now in the shop. And only the release announcement indicates that it's regionally priced. That's a dodge, no solution.
Anyway, so far thanks to the community for the compliments and supporting this vote. Also thanks to all the people who are making it their efford to provide the transperancy GOG owes us. There are GOG Mixes made as we type containing the regional priced games and forum threads collecting the prices from around the world. Keep it on!
(+1 of course)
This is the LEAST GOG MUST do.
Seems like an "informed consumer" option, so I'm in favour of something in this spirit.
Oh, and I´ve thought this would also be a good idea! www.gog.com/wishlist/site/new_sorting_option_regional_pricing
Just though of the same idea but it´s already there, so:
Voted!
Smart, constructive and surely easy to implement. Voted!
This seems like a reasonable and constructive suggestion, so yeah... +1
Yep, that would prevent people for boycotting regional priced games with low ratings.
Even if the "Regional Price Badge" is too mean spirited to be used, GOG should do a "Fair Price Badge". Like "Made in America" (or whatever country a person lives in), "Fair Trade", or "Organic"; it is nice to know when a company is doing the right thing for its customers.
This seems very reasonable medium to me. If we must have regional pricing, dictate in no uncertain terms which ones are regionally priced.
My recommendation for the regional price badge: media2.giga.de/2012/11/WR_Rip-off_debt_consolidation_Sashafatcat.jpg
Yeah, add something like a monkey saying "fuck you idiots, we're making money har har".
So much for sticking to your principles and treating your customers like human beings, eh gog.
This is a very good idea.
This would be a great idea. I hope GOG takes this into consideration.
@NetAndy You already need one. Yes, GoG has games with DRM;CD-Keys are DRM and they have several of those games.
I just hope that we will not need to ask for "DRM-free" badge one day:)
This seems like a fair response.
If GOG absolutely must, then let them at least be transparent about it.
It may even allow the companies involved in this practice to note the effect on sales if people pointedly avoid region-based price-gouging.
Yes! Let those publishers have this badge of dishonor, if they want it so much.
If regional pricing can't be fully stopped then something like that at least. Voted.

well said :)
Voted. Good, solid way to maintain transparency. I can see no reason not to implement this.
