Matruchus I understand gog's decision to offer a new visual experience but this one just does not fit a gamer's store and looks like an apple website crossed with Metro from WIN 8. So bring us back the old jolly gog.com page.

Jethro127 So what exactly happened to the community game "mix" lists?
Some of them were hand dandy for finding games that fit specific criterias you were interested in, or few that you'd want to avoid like the plague for various reasons without having to thoroughly read most of the reviews.
I know some of the most popular lists were those listing games where the devs/publishers treated GoG users as second rate citizens, or those naming&shaming games that were claimed to be multiplatform, but only were properly supported on Windows.
DragonCurse4 Really upset that I can't sort through games based on era anymore. Really makes it annoying trying to find the games I'm interested in.
Akariu also what happend with the category for old games? I would have to look manually now. But as if I would know every game you have or existet....good old games? more goodbye old games
splitsmile agreed this new site is dysfunctional and poorly laid out. I just want to log on, look at games and then buy / download them. This new site will not even load so I can buy stuff, you know to generate revenue for a company that I want to support financially.

RedWolf9000 Hello all, There is at least one forum called "anyone disliking the "new" gog" I posted a comment there about this whish and another whish with the same sentiment called "roll back to the old gog" I really think with enought input GOG will bring back the old design or at least give us more options. LGGOG The new layout for the front page is user effin unfriendly: two giant banners on top filling the ENTIRE screen (my desktop is 1080p), autoplay videos with mousover, uncalled curated collections that wastes precious space, and the news on the bottom of the page, of all places. I can't even find where are the weekly or daily deals, whithout reading the news...! PS: gog fan, but this is a shame.

SilenceX Yes, please provide an alternative that works without JS or at least strip JS down to a sane level. I'm here for good old games because I don't have a super fast computer. It's insane that I need one for the website now. (not going to happen!). Or please provide a batch download script so I can avoid the website.

It's so bad that on some configurations (e.g. Android browser on tablet) the banner fills the entire screen and you can't even see the game's name.
Meanwhile, basic functionality such as review edition and sorting is still missing. So much for an "upgrade".
jmatcob why is gog so damn slow now? it's pathetic. i have been waiting 20 mins for the pages to load and i can't even buy games now it takes too long. i can visit any other sites like ebay etc (waiting for gog to do it's thing) in seconds, no problem. it's only gog that is so dysfunctional since this new layout. cmon guys, don't you test these things before going live?

nusatsum Currently there are nearly 50 comments in this thread as of September 2014, and over 300 votes for bringing back the old design. Just think of how many other customers are feeling worse about gog that are unaware of this thread? Or who never spoke out, but rather went elsewhere...
From a business (and survival) perspective Gog should listen to their customers (bread and butter) rather than their web designer/developer (expense).
Matruchus I must say that at least with using Barebone essentials this website is becoming usable now. Gog is still ignoring all the feedback about the website design that was given to them by users. Still would prefere the old looks.
Peaceful Protestor I find that the functionality of this new design is worse on desktop than it was previously. I don't know why people would feel the need to browse the site on their phone, or tablets, but I do most of my browsing from my desktop, or laptop (should I happen to be on it). If people want to browse GOG on their phones, or tablets then GOG should make an app. Please return the website back to its former glory.
Lifthrasil Yes, I would very much like the old design back. This tablet-focused layout is unclear and impractical on a desktop, it is slower and still buggy (for me at least). And it is ugly, especially the wide, grey navigation bar at the top.
Couldn't one make a customizable layout? So that the users can choose if they want the old, reliable interface or the new, experimental one?
akcaye Design should favor usability and convenience and this design provides a much better experience than before. It's easier to search, find what you're looking for, and generally browse the games. Easy to access menus, categories and options. This is much better. Whether it reminds you of a store doesn't really matter; it's mostly because this design is better for a store so stores will have similar designs.
-Mithridates- I think the new design is really ugly but I'm not going to vote for this since I think the site is still as functional as before. There are more important issues than the design style and after some time has gone we will have become used to it. The only time I can remember that a website reverted to it's old design was Moby games and that was an exceptional circumstance. Let's hope they use some better designers next time!
The logo needs to go though. All grey, what were they thinking? When I see that I think: Grey Old Games, which is as far from the truth as possible. I know Apple\Win8 minimalism is the in thing now, but come on! At least use some colors in your logo!

Matruchus The look is still a problem but the main problem is the functionality of the website. Links not working right, currency selection not possible, frontpage oversized, etc.
ng The site looks alright to me. You can buy and download games and you can even use forums. You'll get used to the new look, it's not THAT terrible. Let them focus on adding some new and old games please.

nusatsum The new site is confusing. I used to drop by, and quickly check the current specials ... now I feel less like visiting. The old site was far more to the point, friendly and simple. That's what I liked about gog. Now it's got usability and focus issues. Who convinced them to do this? Why make it friendly for tablets and phones when what they are selling isn't meant for tablets and phones?

rolandasb People saying that they will not buy games and even won't bother coming back are ridiculous. I understand that people don't like changes, but give it some time. Everybody will be fine about it, and will create topics like this when the next big website update ships.

Tenar The same way there are two versions of the shelf at the users' account, there should be an option to set up the site like it was before. I seriously dislike the new look, it has extremely poor usability and it's not user friendly.
One_of_Many I don't agree: it's easier to navigate and more useful now. But I'd like to see more colours. :-)
ng The front page is too busy. Too many pictures and useless text. I love simple and clear design and this one is far from it. Other than that I couldn't care less as long as all the features are intact. Paint it black or white it's still the same site.
drealmer7 It's disgustingly awful. The main focus of this site (was): COMPUTER GAMES. I only use a desktop PC to play COMPUTER GAMES and don't care at all about tablets or phones or social media and all the other meaningless crap that is occupying a majority of society's interest these days. The look and feel of this site on my PC GAMING DESKTOP is shit now. UTTER SHIT. I'll no longer visit the website at all, and I used to visit it a LOT. I'll just follow you more on facebook I guess to see what deals you might have. (blehhhh, now I'd rather go to FACEBOOK than gog.com, that is saying something, certainly.)
moderelax The new design is atrocious! Gone is the character of GoG's page, now it is just another bloody Steam-proxy site or similar. I can't begin to describe how sad I felt when I reloaded a tab in the browser where the old site was still sitting and then .... 'this' showed up (5 times slower, to add insult to injury).
Just delete it and give us the real GoG design and feel!
coffeecup Regarding the purchase emails, the order number and GOG in the subject is (at least for me) very important. I skimmed through my mail archive, there has been several revisions of the subject, but they ALWAYS included the order number:
March 2010: "Order Summary - GOG.COM (#12323)"
June 2011: "This is your order summary (#12323)"
January 2014: "Your purchase summary for order #2342134"
August 2014: "Order completed!"
GOG you don't have to be so hellbent on copycatting Steam, you know (which send such new meaningless subjects).

eg "Your GOG.COM Order #132323" instead of "Order Complete!" (and nothing)

Awolnation The new website sucks. It looks ugly and the bar at the top is really f*cking annoying. Also, the new screenshot layout in the game details is terrible. This said you used to be able to switch the photos by clicking on the side of them, witch was something that I really liked. So if you could bring at least that back, I would be happy. But, I would be happier if you brought the old website back.
Ps. I seriously hate using this website now and I use much much less since the update.
Matruchus So this seems to be some kind of a new webdesign trend with several websites like amazon, ebay and others going blank and totally depressing also. Really wish gog wouldn't follow trends as it never before did.
BoojieBoy @Sachys, responsive layouts are great from a maintenance perspective. If you wanted to add new functionality to your blog for instance you'd potentially run into a set of 3 totally different roadblocks to overcome and as each version gets more complex, it only gets messier to support like-features on all three now-separate apps.
That's less likely to be an issue with a blog but ecommerce apps are constantly getting tweaked and modified.
The CSS layout/technique is actually pretty minimal and nicely done which is why it surprises me that it looks like a lot of their images look like they got saved down straight out of a photoshop crop without turning down the quality a few notches. But that's something you can automate Photoshop for you so hopefully they'll figure it out soon and have somebody who knows how.
I'm not understanding why they went with Angular.js at all though. It's a single-page app framework and it's going to add a lot of overhead/complexity to relatively simple stuff. Not really a win on a not super-complicated traditional static HTML paged app. Of course full-disclosure I hate Angular so take that with a grain or two.
BoojieBoy Speaking as a web UI developer, the performance will likely get fixed relatively quickly. One big problem is that they're not optimizing images on a lot of the product pages. The image load must be going well past a megabyte on a lot of those pages and it could easily be a tenth of that without a noticeable reduction in quality (they're not very high res images). Also, they use the same content image for the thumbnails from what I can tell so they all load on the page at once whether you browse the images or not.
I really don't hate the layout though and it's nice to get options like grid vs list view that don't reload the page for the same information in a different structure.
Even if I liked Angular.js (I don't), I'd be puzzled as to why they chose it. It's naturally going to add some overhead/complexity to relatively simple things and it's primarily designed for single-page applications, not a traditional multi-page app like this one.
I think attending to the excess image sizes will help a ton though.
Matruchus The more im using this website the more I hate it. Totally gray, unresponsive, badly designed. The old one was a lot better. If this thing stays I will use it but it will never again feel good being a totally dead website. The webdesigner who made this needs to be shoot.
gamefood I hate it. They can keep it if they must, but then I'm going to keep something too: my wallet closed. Quite simple.
