Add "Downvote" to Wishlists (and show them as seperate tallies)
People want this to happen because "democracy" but that's a really common reason people give when they want something but don't want to talk about "why" really. In the history of the internet both up and down voting have been abused, but downvoting has been the most abused "vote-type" feature of all.
100% guaranteed downvoting wishlists will be SEVERELY abused by fake accounters and bots. Think about how horrible it would be if some evil group of people who didn't like GOG downvoted a very wanted wishlist idea and prevented it from ever happening, thus ruining gog by preventing it from improving? Downvoting wishes WILL be abused by corrupt individuals.
NO THANKS.
To be honest, I'd prefer for them to add options to make it easier for people to find out about obscure and forgotten games. Giving people a chance to fight about games everybody already knows about, doesn't seem like a particularly good addition. This would most likely just give games more exposure that don't even need it.
Downvoting is critical part of a democracy. You can disagree all you want in the comments, but your voice is largely unheard over the positivity of upvotes. One of the most annoying parts of imdb forums was that the community was obsessed with only keeping the people who really liked the movie on the forums, as if negative opinions are somehow worth less than positive opinions.
We need to learn to respect everyone's opinion and let their voice be heard.
Also: Paradox!
I would use this new feature to downvote this wish. If it gets more downvotes than votes, then what? ;)
I can see why GOG wouldn't implement a feature like this:
1) Negativity: It would be too easy to downvote a complex wish when someone only read the title.
2) Limited Imagination: GOG employs professional designers. Suggestions made by users could still be 'streamlined' to work a hell of a lot better.
3) Optional Features: Voting against something that's 'optional' would make no sense. (A hairdresser can shave your head when you ask them to, but there's no reason to get a 'law' against it, just because you dislike that haircut. Sigourney Weaver still looked good in Alien 3.)
4) Hate speech: Some users might downvote/'hatevote' ideas from users they dislike. There are currently 5(?) wishes for GOG to remove 'user reputation' from the forums. This should be a popularity contest for 'ideas' - not for people.
5) Comments: We can already point out problems with certain ideas in the comment section.
6) Limited Use: The feature would only be applicable for site & Galaxy features, since users can't 'anti-buy' a product.
7) Relevance: In the end, a wish can have 9,000 votes, but still not get fulfilled by GOG. A few months back someone asked in the comment section how many votes it would take in order for the game to come to GOG... We can only make 'suggestions'. GOG is a store - not a democratic country. If an idea has only 12 votes it's already unpopular. If it has 600 votes but 75 active nay-sayers, the people at GOG can probably draw their own conclusions.
And these are just the reasons I can give from the top of my head.
Makes only limited sense and the potential of misuse overcomes quickly the small benefit. But what it need, is that you may withdraw your vote once you gave it.
Down-voting features makes a lot of sense. Some requests are just bad ideas, dark-patterns or really go against GOG's principles. Some people want bad ideas to just 'disappear' which I think is a terrible idea for transparency's sake at least. The others that are saying it would be 'overly negative', well that just proves that you have dissenting opinions that you would like express here. If we don't want negative opinions, maybe GOG should comb the comment section and remove negative comments... nope, bad idea. A guise of positive support does not help the idea, GOG or the community.
Gog usually makes features on their site optional anyway so I feel having this only supports negativity
How naïve, not downvoting something out of spite...I hate to burst your bubble, but this happens almost everywhere on the net. In fact, if I could, I would downvote your requested feature, as such a button will incite flame wars. Just comment on the feature (without voting of course) and tell you why you think it would be a bad idea.
