Ability to edit/update/delete own reviews or ability to report "dated" reviews
Here here. One-starred a game over one issue that IMO makes the game unplayable, but I'd be willing to revise it if my issue gets fixed.
Especially frustrating that you can't edit/update/delete/append/reply to reviews considering that there is currently no indication of formatting rules or even a preview while you are writing it...
personally, I would love it if I could use markdown syntax like github/gitlab do or reddit does if you enable it. But even just some comments mentioning what you can and can't do formatting-wise would be appreciated...
I had seen someone else's review that had an ampersand + "gt" + a semi-colon (aka what an escaped HTML greater than symbol would look like) so I mistakenly assumed that they had manually escaped a greater than symbol and then the system ALSO escaped it.... Nope. I had used a greater than + name + less than without thinking about it (describing a dynamic path) and it completely stripped it out of my review. I guess if they are afraid of folks using html tags (e.g. maybe trying a bit too aggressively to prevent injection attacks or something), they could at least have a bullet point below the text entry field that says something like "* don't use HTML markup or enclose words in angle-brackets as these will be removed". Then I could at least have a chance of having my review come out correctly the first time...
It perplexes me why other gaming sites allow you to delete or edit a review but GOG does not.
People should have the ability to clarify or remove statements. If not, GOG is saying if someone calls you an asshole they can never take it back nor apologize and the person saying it will forever be villified.
Not being able to delete or edit a review is actually making me not want to review any game at all on GOG. It archaic.
We definitely need an ability to delete our own reviews and post new ones, or edit them. I started playing a certain game for the second time and as my opinion of it improved, I now feel like my review was way harsher than it should have been. There's also one thing I said that's not an objective fault of the game itself but actually the result of me not knowing game mechanics the first time I played.
It actually came as a shock to me when I realized I can't "fix" the review in any way whatsoever. GOG, please give this to us.
It's a shame to only be able to leave first impressions.
I gave a great game 2 stars due to absolutely terrible performance. Then I was able to fix the performance issue with help from the developer (surprise: turned out that Windows Defender on certain builds of Window 10 was the culprit). Would be great to be able to update a review, even if the update was included afterwards and clearly marked update.
I would honestly sort dated reviews into their own dated sections, rather than giving people "internet police" power to report peoples reviews they don't like for opinions only and just using the excuse the review is old to get what they want. Imagine you write a really good review and someone comes along and reports it to get it deleted? That wouldn't feel good. I agree with the other points and I think reviews should be sorted by current version or allow the user to select "no version" in case they're just dropping in to leave a review even if they don't own it on gog.com
Another reason that reviews could be dated is In Dev games. Kona was on GOG for the longest time while in development, and indeed, there are reviews there of the obsolete alpha release. Upvoted.
Personally, I usually write reviews of my played games more for me than for others users. Like a gamer 's diary, I like to read them several months after, to remember me how were my feelings about a game. So, it's a bit disappointed to not be able to consult them. And of course edit or suppress them...
Made a mess of every review I've written for one reason or another. Upvoted.
I addad a review for Planescape: Torment when I was halfway through with the game, being sure that I could add up the rest as soon as I had finished the game, just to find myself desperately searching for an option to edit my review... I also voted on Dragonfall, which was greatly improved in the meantime, but now I cannot give a better rating... This is just plain stupid and makes me quite angry, sorry for the clear words.
Found myself thinking about this myself when looking at some of the reviews I've done on game pages, I really would like to edit and improve most of them. Considering how easy it is to edit all the details of your GOGlists I wish the reviews here had a similar system to them.
Great idea. This is really annoying to me as well. I also made a bad review of Wing Commander that I can't undo or edit, after my second playthrough I ended up really enjoying the game. There are also too many nostalgic "reviews"= recollections of past experiences and not reviews of the actual current game. So many people are voting up these "reviews" for nostalgic reasons rather than practical.
Good idea, but it should always be up to the reviewer whether to edit or remove their review. Those "outdated" reviews are still useful to me because it reflects poorly on a developer to release a game in a shoddy state and then try to fix it later. And often something that the developer claims to have "fixed" in a patch is still problematic, but in a different or less obvious way.
Yes, ability to do something about outdated reviews would be nice, upvoted.
I'd like to be able to delete my own reviews personally.
