Rights reserved inXile. I think the agreement is possible.
I still have this for the Commodore 64! Oh the days of floppy disks...
I never got to play this but I remember it as having the most thoroughly awesome box art I can remember.
PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!
Who exactly owns Wasteland (Game) anyway? Interplay? EA? inXile?
I really need Wasteland before Wasteland 2 gets released. Please? Pretty please with cherry on top?
I am old enough to remember this game as well as all the original Bard's Tale games. The story was wonderful. I would buy it :)
This one was really really fun&challenging. Yet, It is somewhat dated, and I cannot see it becoming a success as a $ costing title. For GoG users who have completed the free Ultima IV and Savage Empire games, this is a great must-get, but for majority of Fallout fans, this game might be a bit too dated and hard to get into. Still like it myself, and would pay it for a 1$.
this game I hear will be released free with purchase of wasteland 2. so maybe we can get both on GOG : )
Maybe with the release of wasteland 2 gog can get this as a free release to promote the release of the sequel. Maybe they could even add the c64 music to the pc version, that could make it perfect and they would not need to rewrite the music, just add support for the Innovation SSI-2001 isa sound card (that was basically a sid 6581 chip on a pc sound card), dosbox already has support for it :)
I've heard a lot about this precursor to Fallout, would love to play it.
Dassie14: "...lately I've been intersted in a whole town of DOS games..." A whole TOWN, you say? I wonder what it would be like to live there? :O
I have neve played wasteland but lately I've been intersted in a whole town of DOS games. I love the Fallout series and I would be interested in playing the game that started the Fallout series
SO this...please GOG PLEASE! lol :P
Here is a link to an overview of InXile's announcement: http://wasteland.inxile-entertainment.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2476
@SkeleTony I suppose that only means they were selling cheap, not making it freeware. Betrayal at Krondor was one of the first full games I saw in magazines down here in Brazil, and it's sold for money here on GOG.
I never got to finish this game when I was younger and would certainly like to own a digital copy for the sake of convenience.
The announcement that this will come with Wasteland 2 might be sign that InXile has liberated this classic from EA's clutches. In which case... let's just hope Wasteland 2 will come out on GOG (Which doesn't seem like a stretch, as it'll be DRM-free directly from InXile).
Its been announced that Wasteland 2 will come with the original, bundled together seems to have been stipulated by EA.
Cannot upvote enough. While I still have a copy (an omnibus of 10 of Interplay's greatest, same CD houses The Bard's Tale amongst other fine old games), the manual was not lucky enough to survive several moves.
This would be cool, but the rights to the game are owned by EA. I'd rather not support that cruel, greedy corporation when I've already backed the upcoming sequel through Kickstarter by the game's original creators, and can feel no guilt downloading an abandonware release.
@RafaelLopez Don't know about NOW but Wasteland WAS released as freeware on a "Computer Gaming Monthly" disc(Along with an unworkable Wizardry 6, Betrayal At Krondor, Might and Magic 1 and one other game I can't remember off hand) back in 1997-98. I still have that issue somewhere.
I haven't had a chance to play it but Wasteland 2 is coming (to GOG, hopefully) and it'd be interesting to play the predecessor.
Played it on the C-64. I actually finished this game, but i had to call for hints, a.k.a. before the World Wide Web.
I never got the honor of playing Wasteland since it was before my time. Despite it showing it's age graphically from pictures I've seen, I would buy it and play it just to see what all the old school gamers were talking about.
Would be smart to work with the devs of the new Wasteland to get something rolling together.
Now would be the perfect time to release Wasteland, with Wasteland 2 hyped up it'd be sure to sell.
Well I never played the original but as a great fan of fallout games and with wasteland 2 coming out I could give this a try even if it is a bit too old for my tastes :)
Well there is Wasteland coming out via Kickstarter and its funded by like 2000% so ought to be good =)
If you could do the original with .pdfs of the paragraphs it would be amazing.
Definitely hard to imagine gog without the original Wasteland RPG. If EA doesn't try riding the renewed exposure to the title at some stage in the next 18 months then they truly is run by incompetent baboons. Would be surprised to not see the new one when it is out too for that matter. Hopefully they're able to work something out, the current popularity of old-school games is good for everyone (hint hint).
Add Wasteland to GOG please. I don't know if my C128D still works. Thanks.
With the Wasteland 2 coming up, I would LOVE to have the original classic on the GoG. This HAS to happen.
It's about time to get this Legend back in to gamers' hands!
@Dragon001 Now that's no official position from InXile, Brian Fargo or anyone that matters. @jcalton Who told you that? Brian?
Well on the Wasteland 2 forums they are suggesting themselves you should get Wasteland through abandonware and the Paragraph book from replacementdocshttp://wasteland.inxile-entertainment.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1269&p=22324#p22324
OMG yes. I asked the designer (Kickstarter) about it and he can't get the rights, apparently.
I know close to nothing about this game but all that Kickstarter talking got me curious about it. I support the idea of a GOG release.
The Godfather of all post apocalyptic RPGs should be on GOG. I mean, without this gem there would be no Fallout.
I'm voting for this since day one in GOG, and it was apparent to me that GOG just wasn't interested in releasing it, because it already had Fallout, from the same makers and same franchise. It turns out EA actually owned Wasteland back in the Fallout days, reason why a new franchise was created in the first place. Now apparently Brian Fargo bought the rights to Wasteland off Konami (according to Wikipedia), and being to so fond of Wasteland as he is, he could give us the pleasure of purchasing it legally here. Come to think of it, I think I'll shoot him an email, which should set the ball rolling, being as I'm so important.
@staticblast @Huiggi: I'm pretty sure Wasteland is not free, who told you guys that?
@Huiggi: So is Beneath a Steel Sky, yet GOG has it on the site...
Isn't Wasteland free?
i really hope that gog will put this game sooner or later !
It would be great to be able to buy this game but the copyright issues are so messed up it's going to be extremely hard.
Wasteland 2 has a very successful kickstarter going on, now would be a good time to make Wasteland available

Nevermind, looks like the one I added in 2008 got removed from not having enough votes. Huh.
Wow, there are multiple entries for this unless the one I added in 2008 was removed. Nice show of votes though.
