Sci-fi dungeon crawler developed and published by Panther Software for Windows in 1999 (based off of HAMLET, originally released on the PC-98 in 1994). After losing contact with the moon-base HAMLET, a multinational corporation deploys their search team to the site, beginning a lengthy, intense series of events. The player must explore the desolate underground base with caution, both for oneself and for other team members falling into danger. Taking advantage of video cards from that era (including 3dfx units, meaning that the Glide API can be used to run this game on modern OSes), Space Griffon only needs minor hacking for a full translation patch. It was only meant for Windows 9x and ME users, however, meaning that emulation or up-porting will be needed in order to play for most.

Though the game's design harkens back to classic mapping and puzzle-solving, combat is handled in real-time on an analog movement grid, meaning that you can strafe around enemies in your mech and blow them to scraps. Your vehicle has alternate modes of travel for certain situations, such as a low-center-of-gravity tank form or a stout and laborious humanoid config. The story advances every time you contact or are contacted by your colleagues, as well as in the event of a boss fight or end of a hidden sequence. Because certain parts of your mech can be damaged relative to others (same going for energy usage), players also need to manage their on-board inventory and avoid wasting map-specific benefits.

However unlikely it is that this game will be ported, I certainly hope that it eventually is. This is BY FAR one of my favorite games of all time, and in all honesty I've probably logged more hours on the various iterations of this game than any other person. It is one of my childhood favorites, and my personal belief that it was well ahead of it's time. I have often dreamed of doing a remake using modern technology/engines, but I think it would be much too difficult of a project to undertake alone, not to mention I'm not even sure who holds IP rights anymore as the studio went defunct quite some time ago.
