Shadow Watch completed
thanks!!!
The original seems to work fine when ran on top of Wine after applying a no-cd hack found in www.adammil.net/blog/v114_Reverse_Engineering_Shadow_Watch.html, though I only played a couple of missions.
Would love to see this, seems to have been abandoned at some point?
i have the game on retail cd. its an old game, and though it works on 64bits, the game does have some glitches, : graphics ones
maybe its the nvidiia, i dont know but it plays not as smooth as it did on the windows it was created for.
I hope that if this game gets a recode or whatever, these nasty gliches will be removed so the game can be played like it used to on the older pc and windows.
A new upcoming game:Invisible Inc. seems to know the shadow watch game aswell cause it has some things shadowatch also has.
Check the walkthroughs out on youtube.
So what is a happening? will GOG be able to put it up for sale?? Or are they waiting for a certain amount of votes??
Incredible game and works fine even on win 8.1! No modding was required on my case.
It is a great game, I loved it when it came out. It is a great round-based tactical game with nice comic-style graphics (a bit like shadowrun returns). It has solid game mechanics, combined with well designed and fleshed out characters. Overall highly enjoyable. I would very much appreciate it, if GOG would make it available. I would gladly pay a GOG-typical price for it.
To launch this game on Win7 I had to open Shadow Watch\Shadow Watch\cfg\install.txt and modify a line in it to say "play_video false".
No other messing about with Java was required.
Wow - and here I was thinking I was the only one who liked this back when it came out. Seems like it pretty much slipped under the radar of most people.
Some info for others who don't know what this game is about, and what makes it so great (and most of all, unique):
Made by Red Storm Entertainment, this game is different from their other offerings, although it is based on Tom Clancy's fiction.
In this game, you have a pre-set squad of operatives, and you don't gain any new operatives throughout the game. This means it's a "game over" if even one of your squad-mates dies on any mission; however, your team mates tend to be much tougher than all the enemies - this combined with the art style makes the game feel like a cross between a serious turn-based squad tactics game, and a graphic novel.
Basically, this game reminds one more of Incubation in terms of gameplay (as opposed to say X-COM or JA2), but with a modern setting. You cannot change the weaponry of your team mates - they all play a unique role in the team - but you can choose how to upgrade them. These upgrades may increase stats, provide a perk of sorts (to them or even the whole team), or even allow the use of a new skill/attack altogether!
There's a mix of "silent" mercs: one with a silenced pistol and hand-to-hand, one with a silenced SMG (with fibre optic sight to look through doors) and squad-leader perks, another with a scanner to spot enemies through any obstacles; and "loud" mercs: a sniper/medic, an ex-quarterback with a shotgun who can charge through doors (and people!), and an explosives/grenade expert (who can be upgraded so that one can choose from gas, frag, and proximity grenades).
Additionally, all team members have unique voices and personalities - something which is mostly evident when their morale drops and you lose control of them! One will panic and flee, most will simply find the nearest cover and hunker down, while two of them will charge right at the enemy (often taking out a bunch of them in the process!).
Mission types vary - which determine how many guys you can bring with you, as well as how noisy you can be (ranging from no noise or detection for a bugging mission, to all-out assault or defense missions).
Finally, although the overall plot, locations and potential enemies are constant for each of the three regions in the game, the game is randomised each time - the starting region, which of the three factions in the region are the enemy, the neutral and the friendly faction - all of these things may vary from one game to the next! Additionally, in-between missions you need to "investigate" - typically choosing from a number of different locations to visit, then talking to the person there (you get a couple of dialogs, and a choice of responses for each). Your choices then affect what missions become available - the mission type, the location, and even the guard/alert levels may depending on your choices here, plus you typically still have a choice between a couple of different missions at this point. These choices combined with the randomisation provide nearly unlimited replayability!
So... here's hoping GOG manages to get this from Red Storm.
I had this strange feeling of familiarity while playing Mark of the Ninja. Then it dawned on me that I played a demo of a tactical game with similar graphics back in the day. I would love to see Shadow Watch on GOG!
Can install on a 64-bit OS, but can't get past the disc check. Would love to see GOG release this.
Such an awesome game. I recalled the game without knowing it's name for so long and when I found out I looked for it for ages. Never been able to get it to work on my PC though. Would be amazing to play it again. Instant buy if It gets on here!
I'm so happy people want this game after so many years. I do too, obviously. I had a bootleg copy somewhere but lost it. So hopefully GoG will be able to get it. I wish they made sequels to this game....
And thank you GoG for giving us many old awesome games that we can enjoy, like Septerra Core for example.
Same thing here. Instant buy for it.
I want it. A lot. I pay for it. I say want it? >_<
Instant buy if it's ever on GOG. Extremely cool tactical game with wonderful stylish hand drawn graphics. This would have WAY more votes if people actually knew about the game in the first place.
I actually owned this game, it was incredible! Now that the XCOM train is back to full steam again with the latest iteration, this may do well. It was always much more accessible from the get-go!
This was the definitive squad based tactics game. Used to play the demo over and over and over
I remember enjoying the demo a lot. Would love to see it on GOG.
Shadow Watch has pure tactical gameplay and a non-linear campaign coupled with great art direction, great music and great voice work.
Sadly, It is very difficult to obtain legally today.
Bring it back and take my monies!
Man, I played that demo for weeks. The style and soundtrack, just awesome. Still wondering why nobody makes a tablet game out of it.
Btw, you can download (parts) of the soundtrack from Bill Brown's (he is the composer) website: billbrownmusic.com/musicG2.php
I found this game (informations, not playable game) and some gameplay. Looks pretty interesting for me, who loved Incubation pack.
Will be glad to play it finnaly, someday...
www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN1Z0nP6bc8 <-some gameplay
This jewel from Tom Clancy should definitely get a second chance, damn just when I remember playing it, makes want to play it again :)
and totally not playable on modern machines because the game is java-based. Would be glad being able to replay it
Too many memories.. <3
