I don't know why everyone is having problems with the steam version. There's plenty of source ports you can use and no DRM. Yes, it lacks the music, which is bad, but gog has released at least one game in the past missing its cd soundtrack.
I think the rights belong to Bethesda and they are very greedy.
Quake on GOG would be awesome!
Please! Release this game on GOG!!
Why is this still on the requested games section? is Activision too greedy, GOG? I do NOT wish to purchase this game on another distribution service because then I won't be able to play it in my LAN like I can with the Unreal Engine games already on GOG.com!
I have Quake on disc, but I'm still in favor of making it available on GOG.
This better make it into GoG, I would get it on steam, but I don't want to, Quake 2 and 1 on there lack the music, which is dumb really, if GoG's versions at least adds the soundtrack as an extra (considering the fact the original game had to be played with the CD), Im so buying it here.
I agree, GOG versions of old ID games would be great. I would've like to buy Quake 2 + mission packs today. (No, I don't want the Steam versions.)
ID please Quake,Doom and Hexen on GOG.
The game of our youth. GOG and Bethesda really need to work together. I love how the gaming industry is always saying that we are unwilling to legally support them when GOG is proving that we pay for games we feel we have the rights to play where and when we like. As for Quake, the sound track by NineInchNails was a feast for the ears and really must be included with the game for the full enjoyment.
Damn! Bad link. Here's the correct one: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/strike_a_deal_w_zenimax_media_inc
Hey guys. I created a wish in the Requested Site Features so that GOG strikes a deal w/ ZeniMax Media Inc. (Parent of Bethesda Softworks) Link: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/strike_a_deal_w_zenimax_media_incI need your votes!
If Bethesda/id isn't going to release decent Steam ports., they should really license it to gog to give these old games a proper PC rerelease. Other users have pointed out the problems. I'm surprised this game doesn't have a higher vote count.
why have id's games not ended up on GOG yet... Quake, Doom, and Heretic/HeXen. I support this 100%!
I have that one on Steam; but on GOG it'd be better since I'm pretty sure that, contrarily to Valve, they'd think about the soundtrack...
I never had much interest in quake or any of the other classic shooters, but after reading some of the ancient history about them i wanted to check out the revolutionary fluidity etc. I once bought an id software pack on steam, which included quake. anyway, after playing for some 15 min and seeing how good it plays, i wondered why it was so quiet. though enjoyable, it seems the steam version is another quick and easy dump, without the original music or any loving polish. I will definitely re-buy this game for 10$ if it would show up here. If i had a twitter i would ask john carmack himself about the sub-par steam version, or even better, about a GOG version.
I would love this! Just make sure it includes the entire sountrack IN-GAME, as the Steam version is seriously lacking in that regard.
I reinstalled and started playing this only two days ago, but this time with Quake Epsilon. Completely forgot how much fun this game was, and the mods breathe all new life into it. I don't have the expansions though, so if it hits GOG with those, it's an insta-buy. Please, GOG, we WANT you to take our money!
Yes, this would be an awesome addition to GOG.com. Especially with the expansion packs included and the DOSBox wrappers loaded with .ogg conversions of the CD soundtracks, as pbaggers mentioned.
Much better than Quake 2 for some reason. If GOG gets it I hope it will be sold with the mission packs (Abyss of Pandemonium, Scourge of Armagon and Dissolution of Eternity with the soundtracks).
This would be a dream come true.. I agree about having the expansion packs included. I remember playing this game to death.
Quake (the first one at least) was awesome. It would be even better if it were to be bundled with the mission packs, and the DOSBox wrappers were loaded with .ogg conversions of the excellent CD soundtracks to the game and it's expansions - which id never included in the Steam versions.
Huh, I'm surprised there's not more noise being made for this.
would buy this as well.
+ Mission Pack 1: Scourge of Armagon & Mission Pack 2: Dissolution of Eternity With working intro and music. This is one of the most Epic FPS ever, adding this to they're list will only earn GOG.com even more respect.
Please note that many id software classics (not only FPS, like Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein 3D, but also Commander Keen, etc.) are still available via their Web site. Consider, e. g., http://www.idsoftware.com/games/quake/quake.
The Steam version was terrible and it's hard to secure a legit version. The quakeworld communty is still VERY active and a release on GOG would only boost that! The most beautiful and fluid deathmatch game to have ever lived and changed gaming forever.
I had a bucket load of problems with the Steam version, and I have yet to get my hands on a sweet boxed copy. So a GOG version would be straight up awesome!
Pleeeeese GOG pleeeeeeese!
