Omega (Origin)
Man, I loved this game back on my C64!
PLEASE bring it back to life, GOG team!
I tried making something complicated, and really disliked the invisible (aka, I'll just stop working here) limits in the game. Still, it and Pool of Radiance were my first 2 Amiga games, and I had the boxes on my shelf for years. Yes, there are others, and some are technically better, but not as entertaining. It is a game, after all. I already know how to program.
How i wish there was a modern day version of this. Is there?
Truly a game that made me look into programming and soooo stisfying to see another tank demolished through your own 'smartness'. No RSI, No bleary eyes or 'brain reality disfunctions'. I have the original copy, but not a computer that can run it (Mac). Does anybody know of a working version for this?
Loved that game...would love to get a working copy for Windows 8 or 10 (soon)
Omega is an amazing game and one that is a shining example of a game that is far ahead of it's time. You program autonomous battle tanks using a proprietary in-game coding language which is actually quite robust (considering that you can make your own code/command libraries, which is completely awesome for all programmers out there who know what that's all about). Omega is even an excellent starting point for people who want to learn how to program computers, as it actually does teach you some basic coding concepts and allows you to put them to the test on the battlefield. This is the game that spawned a small niche genre of programmable robot warfare games such as the completely excellent Carnage Heart series, certain titles in the Armored Core series, and a few other smaller titles as well. A totally underappreciated genre which has some of the most rewarding gameplay moments you could possibly experience in a videogame.
