For different reasons many games will never be published in the gog store - fuck_DRM policy (or at least gog trying to pretend to be a DRM-free store), absurd terms of cooperation that gog is pushing, support policy that is completely frustrating and disappointing, and of course non-professional personnel.

seanwood7777 Apparently Steam Half-Life 2, Episode One, Episode Two, and Portal are DRM free, feel free to back up your copies. To run HL2, just launch hl2.exe. To run the other 3 games, make a new text document in the same folder as the hl2 executable, put "start hl2.exe -game ep2" in it, without quotes, and save it as a .bat file. The game name is dependent on the folder's name, so episodic for Episode One, ep2 for Episode Two, portal for Portal. Or just make a shortcut to hl2.exe, and add -game GAMEFOLDERNAME after the existing text in the target path of the shortcut's properties.

suramura As a glimpse of hope: I just found a DRM free version of the full 2004 version of HL2 on the bonus disk of a Hungarian GameStar. So HL2 was already spread at some point without needing Steam.
