I bought ENDORFUN at an obscure sale, mainly because some guy recommended it with an enthusiasm that seemed religious in nature. And indeed, this thing seems miles away from the style normally expected from the puzzle genre, and is instead deeply rooted in new age and spirituality.

The raw mechaning of the game is that you move a dice around on a grid, using the arrow keys. The goal is to navigate the dice so that it is positioned at a certain spot with a certain side facing up. Like with Solitaire games or minesweeper, there is some basic tactics that you will learn, and I remember memorizing a number of moves.

The awesome abstract platformer THOMAS WAS ALONE shifts the perspective slightly, giving the game an unnerving edge. Likewise, ENDORFUN don't show the grid in isometric view or any similar controlled manner, but instead screw the perspective around, sometimes even turning the grid upside down. The wackyness is made complete by the Palette-shifting psychedelic backgrounds, which are no less than awesome.

The soundtrack of course consists of new-age world music. Each track is extremely short - 5 seconds or so - playing on a loop. The repetitive nature makes it more in the category of chanting than of traditional music numbers. Some of the music is quite good, especially in combination with the psychedelic backgrounds. However, it tends to get a bit too much in the tracks with the much adverted sublimical messages, where a voice is saying stuff like "I feel joyful now ... I love being alive" over and over and over again.

I really loved this game! But it was sort of a guilty pleasure. With its extreme new age style and its loud in-your-face subliminal messages, this trip is so bad that it's good.

love this game and own it on disk!! but windows cant run all the features!! no lie I setup a virtual win 98 desktop to get this baby running!!
