Emperor Of The Fading Suns completed
Oh my god, they did it. I'm grabbing that right away!
Finally!
What a pleasant surprise it was to see Emperor of the Fading Suns available on GOG today. I immediately purchased it and can now finally experience the game I have heard so many good things about!
My god, I can barely believe it's true. Thank you so much!
Finally its there
Was there a computer game in the same setting named Noble Armada? Even just a demo that never made it to full and final release? Or is EotFS really what I'm thinking of?
I've been waiting for a Windows 10 version of this game for a couple of years now. Please, GOG, do whatever you can to acquire a playable version of EotFS!
Please add this game!
Yes, please add. Great Game!!!
I don't think I've ever commented on this site before. With that being said.. PLEASE ADD THIS GAME!
Good god, this please! I put more time into this game back than I've put into Doom & Civ combined. As SERIES. I loved this game so much and I've never seen another game pull off everything that it does even half as well. One of the most easily modded games I've ever seen, too. It was how I cut my teeth in the practice. Shouldn't be too much trouble to get the Hyperion mod as an optional download to go with it.
MAKE IT HAPPEN AND TAKE MORE OF MY MONEY! PLEASE!
Yes! EoFS needs the GOG treatment. As a long time strategy gamer, I can attest that this one is a rare gem. A remake might also work, but reviving the original would be an excellent first step that should turn a profit for GOG.
This is almost unique in terms of military/4x games, in that it truly depicts a galactic conflict on multiple levels. Haven't seen the like since it came out. If it'd be possible to get a patched version released here, that'd be wonderful. Alternatively, a remake would be great too.
Please add EOFS to GOG collection!
I would love to be see this here. I also agree it would benefit greatly from a remake, as well.
this games needs a remake not a re-release.
A great strategy game anchored by a great setting. Highly recommended purchase if offered on GOG with compatibility with modern operating systems!
Great atmosphere to this game. Please tune it up for modern systems and release for sale GOG Team.
Any news about this ?
I would be absolutely down to buy this. Great game!
This one would be a no brainer to buy.
This is a fantastic game. it needs only a slight tweek of the AI to prevent endless building of artillery militia when it has no metal or command points to do so. The music is still world class, and it has the feel of Epic Science Fiction plus Dune. If I had a couple million I could crank this out as a BBB title playable on modern OS. It would pay for itself in electronic distribution alone.
This is the one game that truly included all aspects of epic science fiction - at least from a conflict point-of-view. And one of my favorite games of all time. I would love to see it made available on GOG, which seems the perfect place for its resurrection.
The developers confirmed in an interview that there are discussions between them and GOG. Fingers crossed.
the abandonware available does not work on dosbox, or windows 10. The site with the patch has also vanished or is buried in addwares and pop ups...
WE NEED THIS ON GOG!!
Any movement here would be nice to hear it.
+1
This is literally my all time favorite turn based strategy game. Not wargame - I have a separate list for wargames but strategy gaming - this is the best it's ever been. I could write a book about all the virtues of this game. It deserves to be on GoG.
Just found out about this and immediately when to GOG to look for it. Sorry to see it's still in limbo, hope GOG manages to get the rights!
It's funny how I recently was thinking of this game and found this thread on GOG. I played this game somewhere around 00's back in the time when you could run it on PC. And it's the only strategy game which I remember fondly after the years. At the time it was a unique experience. I played Civ, MoO and similar games before, but this one I fell in love with. If EotFS could be ressurected in it's patched glory, that would be grand. This game should be an inspiration for modern epic strategy, but it's unlikely we would see something like it in the future despite technological advances. More the need for this classic to be restored.
I think I started playing this around '98. I love the grand, epic atmosphere, the in depth world building that went in to the whole franchise, the massive size, and the ease of modding. Unfortunately, I can't get it to run on current operating systems. And I've tried. A lot. If GOG would make this game available I would be happy to let them shut up and take my money.
I've had this game for Years, I'm a huge strategy player and still recommend this game to anyone I chat with. The problem is there's no way to properly obtain this game for someone without sending them into Torrent downloads or things of these manner and it make potential players nervous and often don't take the leap.
Please Keep working on getting this game into your Line up ASAP. Maybe let the community know what roadblocks you are dealing with and we might be able to help.
Thank you for your continued amazing work!
I played EotFS on its release back in '95. I still have my original CD ROM and packaging, rule book etc.
This game is my "Drop the Mike" game. No other strategy games have really been able to have the full depth of story, tactical finesse and grand strategy that one needs to play this game. Only the ‘Total War’ games have come close. I love the ability to change the map to what I feel is needed. The ability to exploit different resources as they are found is critical to a player’s success. Building road networks, cities for specific resources and the need to plan how you grow makes for a very enjoyable game. The strategic use of existing resources to obtain more resources adds a level of complexity that anyone who plays this style of game must respect for the challenge enjoy.
The need to create/defend choke points to cut off enemy reinforcements with your land units in imperative. A huge and well equipped military is crucial to the game. Do you have the resources to build one and maintain it? When blockading planets or large industrial areas, do you have the versatility of space ships needed for success while conquering and developing a planet? Do you build small, less expensive ships to deploy a large fleet faster or larger more powerful ships that can crush fleets even when outnumbered? It takes longer but might be more effective. Taking the time to truly think about which options to develop through research and the tech tree, what buildings to build or capture from your enemies to open up more options and having the right timing to do it all is crucial. The learning curve is a real challenge but worth it in the end.
Diplomacy is interesting. War is inevitable in EotFS. That is a foregone conclusion as a part of winning the game. How you conduct diplomacy is a very important choice. Early in the game it is generally a good idea to not really anger anyone. As a single power, you have little in the way of friends early. Making the right friends in the right places with the Church or League creates several problems down the line one way or the other. Dealing with aliens and the symbiots can be tricky and potentially crippling if you become their main target.
In my humble opinion, Emperor of the Fading Suns is one of the best games ever made and needs the GOG treatment to bring it back to its fans. While there are torrents out there that do have the game available, they are always full of bugs and tend to crash. The main bug in the original is easily corrected with thea patch that could be installed and fix the main issues with the game. If all this was corrected and made as a safe game to play, then I would happily buy it on the first day it was available. Please GOG, please bring this game back for those of us that love it and for those who are in need of a real challenging game that goes beyond pretty graphics and brings the mental stimulation and enjoyment of a real grand strategy game to the present day.
C'mon, GOG, we're waiting ...
Will happily throw money at GOG for this game.
Yes please. This game is awesome
Some time ago found this game, played it - and loved it so much, that just went and downloaded everything that there is for the roleplaying game set in the same universe, just to read some more of the lore. Would insta buy.
+1 we need this game
Great Game! Bring it back! New RTS on kickstarter currently. But it's an RTS, so can't approach this one!
Recently remembered this gem. Was trying to pull up an old ripped copy I got after my disk got corrupted. Please gog, let me give someone money to take care of this for me !
I'm trying to put a game together with a friend and so deeply wishing that EFS even had a more modern release. The only multiplayer options are hot-seat and PBEM. With the modernizing tweaks that some games have gotten (I'm looking at you Star Wars Rebellion) it would be amazing if EFS had a TCP/IP connection ability.
With or without, I would happily put down money for a GoG release of Emperor of the Fading Suns.
I want(ed) to play this game after I say this little enthusiastic re-view of Michael Graf from the german games mag GamesStar (so this is mainly for people who are or understand German): youtu.be/JpRknxnETdM?t=837
I still haven't played it... GOG you know yor task! :)
i have the one with Reality + Emperor Wars mod for win64, work like a gem... hard as hell too. Never win :(
another fabolous GEM that should absolutely be on GOG !!!!!
I've literally spent years trying to refind this game again, "I couldn't remember the name of it" and now that I've found it, its not on GoG?!
If GOG got EotFS I would so buy it as would 2 or 3 of my friends. We have spent many, many an hour playing this game. One of the best classic strategy of all time in my opinion.
This game is a Windows 95 game, and therefore, badly in need of professional fixing up. Need this so bad!
Do it GOG, do it
