Now that the "Kyrandia" trilogy and the "Lands of Lore" trilogy are complete on GOG, there simply HAS to be "Dune II", too. The first "Dune" would be cool, too, of course.

Seriously, I would do a great many, probably depraved, things to get my hands on these two classics in a form that is playable on my Win7 lappy. Very. Depraved.

Heck, that was a lot of spam! All reported -- "job's done!" Wait, that's another RTS series... anyhow, yeah, these would fit right in here, if they were to manage to surpass the copyrights hurdles. Personally, I'm not very interested, I've replayed these games not long ago. And while I had tried Dune when I was a kid and it was enough for nostalgia, I never even knew it had a strategic side to it and, alas, found it too much of a chore. Not simply because I had never experienced that side of it (which is a great positive, on one hand) or that my gaming disposition is simply spoiled by modern conveniences or dumb-downs, but the game is so old as to lack some very practical features that would save us routine micro-management as well as allow better macro-management (even if I do like a spot of micro-management in my strategies). And the game is entirely excused in being like that, it simply didn't grip me past a point when there's so many games I intend to (re)play, new and old. Still got far. But when Harkonnen started invading and taking all me sietches, I wondered what the Hell exactly I had toiled for and figured I wouldn't manage to muster a defense and get something positively final out of my run. Had I little else to play, I would have struggled onward, but that was not the case and I am well aware old games are comparably unforgiving, giving us Game Over at times that modern games wouldn't now dare imitate, lest they shun half their player base. Often times, both approaches are too extreme, as games are meant to be fun, firstly, and challenging, secondly; especially nowadays, when they're the foremost interactive media and are growing increasingly flexible, being often optimal in simply conveying a story or an idea. Case in point: The Stanley Parable. Even then, due to the nature of games, almost all games will include some sort of challenge for the player, which is perfectly fine, so long as the difficulty is tuned to the type of game and the challenge molded for the type of player that the game will appeal to. But Hell, I do digress... and you don't need me to tell you about games, not when you find yourself at gog.com. Oh well, excuse my wall-of-text of a rant.

As for Dune 2, now that is entirely more nostalgic and an experience I'm much more familiar with, even if most of the time I was only watching my elder brother play, being still too young myself to properly play it. Having tried out its recreations on a fan website or another, I found the game surprisingly difficult to manage, it truly has been quite a while. Considering Dune 2000, which I've replayed fully not long ago either, I don't see much point in struggling through the dated interface and controls of Dune 2, the visuals and sounds themselves being nostalgic enough for me to appreciate them.

Having said that, I re-iterate, they would be proper apt additions to the repertoire of this place! And I hope the seven thousand of you get your wish, so long as the games are priced fairly and according to their age, despite popularity.

does anybody know if the people at gog ever reply to these threads?
the way i see it there are 5 dune games 2 of which are NOT owned by EA so they might be easyer to get hold of.
The issue as far as I am aware of (for the strategy games) is the copyright to the name is under herbert limited which hate giving rights out and the game is owned by now EA, which are notorius for hating releasing old games. there needs to be a push from someone to get the ball rolling with this, even if we are to be told at this time its been rejected by x party would be nice.

Woah... I'd really like to play Dune 1 once again. Dune 2 is just an old RTS from today's point of view (of course it was one of the first). But Dune 1 had this nice fusion of Adventure and Strategy stuff, even with quite some economy to care for.
That was a real great game. I'd really like to see more games like this to emerge, too.

Why there isn't more game like this anymore?, I played this game like a million times and never got tired, same goes for Starcraft.
Starcraft II with the 3D Bullsh... doesn't have the magic those games had... Not even close.

Just bought C&C Ultimate and it got me thinking back to the early 90s and my favourite game of that decade were in fact the Dune series. The very first one I played for hours on end and was the first "thinking/non-button-mashing" game I had ever played and got me hooked as a gamer for life. Then I came Dune 2 on the Amiga I think which to my shock introduced me to a completely different style of game, but one which again sucked me into it's world throughout my early teenage years. I can still hear the "Contruction Complete!" voice in my head bow and it makes me smile.

I came here thinking GOG would already have it for sale, but alas not :(

Please GOG I will pay my hard earned cash if only you can get me this game again.

For the first DUNE - There is the CD version and CD less. <_< I prefer the one without the CD, the voices was bad and the 3D video when you travel wasn't as interesting as the other. So IF we can have both! that would be great. lol

Dune 1 was amazing - a real immersion to Frank Herbert's story.
I especially liked how they prepared for the almost illogical scenarios too.

Once I accidentally rode to the Carthag on a worm, and of course, game over. On the next screen Rabban gleefully narrates, that "you won't believe what happened! One day the foolish Atreides prince came to Carthag - and we killed him!"

Considering EA released the whole 90s C&C series for free, it'd be kind of weird to try to sell Dune 2 now. Plus there's Dune 2: Golden Path, which is free and so much better in terms of interface, balance, etc.

Dune 1 was neat tho.

So many hours did i play these 2, such excellent games and to consider the time they came out. Dune I has a great story, nice graphics for the time, intresting strategy, very unique. Dune 2 I might say that was THE strategy game that cathalyzed RTS explosion.
