gl1978 The problem is whether id can recognise that there would be a lot more buyers on GOG for, say, $5.99 with a promise that it runs on Windows 7 (and hopefully 8) than on their own website at $20.

Elideb Buying it from ID and using one of the free and improved doom engines around is still the best way to play, but the price is mighty steep ($20 for any DOOM game?). If GOG released the original files, sans bullshit, just like with FreeSpace 2, it would be perfect.
joe1 Please note that many id software classics (not only FPS, like Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein 3D, but also Commander Keen, etc.) are still available via their Web site. Consider, e. g., www.idsoftware.com/games/doom/doom2.
Jeffpiatt I would hope that GOG would retain the Setup.exe since the steam version prevents you from playing it normally.
