@busta5000: There's no DRM on the Steam versions of Doom and Quake, since they actually are the DOS versions of the game, unmodified and packaged with DOSBox. You can play these games without the Steam client. In fact, several source ports (at least ChocoDoom, Eternity, and ZDoom) will detect the data files in the Steam directory and let you play the games directly, so you can just launch GZDoom and there you go, with Steam being none the wiser.

Pretty sure that it's Bethesda that doesn't want DRM free distros. They are pretty hot on anything they have not being controlled by them.

I think ID software itself doesn't want to legally distribute its games without DRM I already bought DOOM & QUAKE Collection through Steam but yea if it were here first I would have bought it from here. I prefer GOG over steam regarding Classic games.

IN FACT - if you lot do release it, do a separate download with GZDoom, the remastered soundtrack and sound effects, and Beautiful Doom. If the makers of those things let you, of course. ;)

Bethesda owns id now, right? They've released the original Fallout trilogy, why not the original Doom trilogy as well? (Plus Master Levels, please!)

You can play it online. But you can't play any of the thousands of mods for it. Nor can you experience the OpenGL effects and 3D niceness that GZDoom offers. Nor can you play episodes 2-4. Or Doom II. Or Master Levels. Or either of the Final Dooms. Frankly, playing it online is a poor option.

I use a source port called GZDoom with the original Doom wad files. I would like to see id's games on GOG from Wolfenstein to Rage. I already own most of them though.

Ah, the ultimate shareware experience ^^. Instant buy with the Master Levels :). In the meantime, head over to http://dengine.net to get the Doomsday Engine, and play id/raven games in HiRez and new remastered soundtrack. (or in oldschool lowrez.....:P). The only reason i have a stem account is because of Half-Life. The id Collection here? Take my money!

I´ll never understand Id software. Wolfenstein 3d,Sod, Doom and Quake never has DRM. and they Released on Steam... GOG.com is the real competence only and they don´t use DRM. In every case the only game I buy on steam only the valve own games. all of other GOG.com has it. whiot DRM.

Look at the number of people who would like Doom! It would be helpful if GOG could say why they cannot provide it. People can understand if they are given explanations.

I would love all of ID software collection on GOG. The steam collection I own is shocking in that you have to go and get software to get it to work properly. I would definitely buy again for a definitive collection that only GOG can do so well.

I vote for it in place of all id Software games up to Rage. All already are DRM-Free even Doom3 and Quake4. Both started with a copy protection, which was later removed by a patch. They are on Steam, why not here?

Doom was the first FPS I have had the pleasure of playing. Great game. Remember the crushing ceilings and the lights going out and here come hell spawn and zombie 12 zombie marines and my BFG 9000. Great game.

You could even package it with ZDoom (or possible GZDoom) to provide a complete working solution. As ayjanu said, it would be nice to have a version that works out of the box, and given a couple of .bat files, this would be perfect. rajones55, Doom isn't Build engine, it's id tech 1 (or, alternatively, the Doom Engine).

Totally agree that it would be nice to just have a plain "vanilla" copy of Doom that would work "out of the box" with Windows 7, including multiplayer. There's something to be said for that.

Try as I might, I haven't got the computer knowledge to run my old copy of The Ultimate DOOM on my new computer. Yes, I do know about Windows compatability, but there are files missing that I can't find no matter how hard I look. I understand that a business deal with id would be an enormous deal and not something to be taken lightly at all, but I do hope you guys are considering it. They made so many wonderful games that us non-computer savvy people are unable to play nowadays.
