Dark Legions completed
With so many SSI titles being added in recent years, it's puzzling this one hasn't been among them. As far as I know, it isn't a licensed game based on some tertiary IP, but was purely an SSI game. Considering we even have many of the licensed D&D games on GOG nowadays, I really wonder what's been holding back this one. It was a really, really fun game, especially when playing multiplayer. Vampires FTW!
I miss this came so much, the complex traps and suicidal theif trying to remove them, conjurer making troops, wizard freezing troops and stying to get the seer to find that stupid phantom with the orb and rachmaninof blasting in the background. Great game. Please gif!
Oh come on already, this gem is smack dab in 90s bliss GoG territory! Bump bump bump!
Please bring Dark Legions alive again!!
Would definitely buy this the day it becomes available. Loved it as a kid and played it all the time! Glad there's still a few people that remember it at least.
I still have the CD of this game. If GOG wants to see what it is and get the coding.
+1 - I'd like to see this game on GOG :)
Yes, I miss this game but don't want to deal with the emulators. I'd purchase this from you.
Yes please !
Please make this happen!
Want it! It's awesome!
Can't believe this still isn't on here! GoG - sort it out!
Please ya this game was awesome! like ARchon but with more choices and strategy.
SSI made some horrible choices at the end, Dark Legions was not one. A great army builder with a flexible mix of soldiers like cannonfodder, heavy, special movers and casters. An abundance of traps to ruin your game and magic rings to suriprise your opponent. A dificult AI and Rachmaninof - Prelude in C minor playing in the background. It was a gem of a game.
An underrated gem by SSI. I spent hour upon hour with this one. Still play it on DOSbox occassionally, but would instantly buy an optimized version on GOG.com.
Would buy this one immediately! Loved this game O.o
available on abandonia for download
I would buy this if it were on GOG.
Dark Legions is amazing, please bring it back xD
Now this would be a real present :)
There are only a handful of DOS-era games that I'd buy again, but this is definitely one of them - I'd rank it right up there with Syndicate, X-Com, and Space Crusade... A true classic that definitely belongs here on GOG. *grin* Does anyone remember taking on one of those big nasty red demons using only the illusion of a vampire with a single measly hit-point... and winning!?! :D THAT was the dictionary definition of "Tense" and "Triumph" all at once. :) Don't let the chess-board layout fool you, there's a LOT of strategy and edge-of-your-seat excitement hidden away in this one. Definitely one of SSI's best.
Any chance this is coming out? Loved this game back in the day!
Would be really nice to have this. I used to play it as a child and really loved the idea to combine TBS with real time combat.
I managed to get this game to run in DosBox by copying the CD into a directory and then further making a CUE image of the CD (as it is required for copy protection to play) and mounting it as an image drive on D, but I really would appreciate being able to purchase it again so it will run more easily on a modern system. It is a fantastic game and I really enjoy it.
The command line in dosbox for those of you who might have original copies and can make ISO or CUE images of the disk should be something like:
mount c c:\DirectoryWhereYourGameFilesAreCopied\
imgmount d c:\DirectoryWhereYourImageIsLocated\dlegions.cue -t iso
and of course then the regular lines to enter the game:
c:
cd\DirectoryWhereYourGameFilesAreCopied
dl
You can place these commands in a configuration file or else simply type them each time. If you use a config file you can simply make a copy of the dosbox.conf file and name it something else (such as DL.conf). Then at the end of this file you can type your mounting instructions. You will then need to have it called on your Dark Legions shortcut:
Under Target you would type:
C:\DirectoryWhereYouKeepDOSBox\dosbox.exe -conf NameYouCalledYourDLegionsConfigFile.conf
Start In would be: DirectoryWhereYouKeepDosBox
This and Archon Ultra!
This game was one of the most overlooked gems of its time. One of the most advanced archon style gameplay, I can still remember picking this up as a little kid and going home and installing it. My father, brother, and myself played into the wee hours of the night running tournaments and creating house rules of what your army could consist of and things like that. What an amazing game! Would love to see this again! Vampire Bat Army for the win!!!!
Want, want, want! Yes please! Loved this game, spent so many hours playing it, and cannot get abandonware copies to work in Dosbox. Please consider. :(
This game was amazing hotseat multiplayer! This would be an instabuy for sure! So many fond memories of build an army and customizing the units.
This is one of the few games I ever remember when I was growing up, along with serf city and hexen. It would be a major kick in the nostalgia in a good way if this got added.
Please consider adding this great game to your library! It gave me many hours of enjoyment, and I would purchase it as soon as it was released!
Smh I can't believe this has not gotten more votes. Has GOG even looked into this great game?
Come on GOG!
Do it. Do it now. One of the very best two-player strategy games ever made; like a cross between Battle Chess and Gauntlet (kind of). Really excellent game that needs to be on here.
Do it, GOG. Do it now. Here is my money. Take it.
A friend of mine bought this game and we played the blasted thing for hours! I found a copy a few months ago but never got around to trying to play it as that computer decided to burn its motherboard out. I would buy this game in a heartbeat if I saw it show up on GOG.
I would purchase this game the moment GOG.com released it. I have spent so many hours on this game and I miss a . Such a well made strategy game and an excellent "Hot-Seat" game.
Come on GOG! :(
I have this on CD-ROM, it's pretty sweet, though the AI leaves a bit to be desired.
One of my favorite oldschool strategy games. Used to spend hours gettng whooped by my older brother. This would be insta-buy for me - please add this GoG! Glad to see there's a few other GoGer's to multiplayer with - I'm pretty sure I had something close to an unbeatable setup (using large map, 20,000 creds)
Wow, guess this must be another one of those games that never got the attention it deserved. This is a very excellent strategy/action game not unlike a souped-up Archon Ultra or Star Control 1... turn-based strategy until two pieces meet, then it's a real time battle. The units are very different in terms of capabilities and cost (you 'buy' units at the start of the game) resulting in dozens of distinct viable strategies. Wraiths could teleport vast distances (at the cost of life) to assassinate rear targets, wizards could freeze units on the strategy or melee screen, vampires began the game with negative life regeneration but could steal enemy units, fire elementals could sacrifice themselves to burn everything around them, trolls could turn to stone when they got low on life, templars could heal and smite undead, thieves could disarm traps, shapeshifters could pretend to be any unit, etc. Powerups could be purchased to permanently buff a single unit. Traps could be purchased and placed to thwart an overly aggressive player. If you were really good in melee with a certain unit you could use an illusionist or conjurer to summon multiple cheap copies of it. The object was to kill your opponent's orb-carrier, but this could be given a hidden but weak phantom or a strong demon, or anything in-between.
It had single player, hotseat multiplayer and even modem (not internet, just 'modem') multiplayer that might be usable with some really deep Dosbox magic.
Judging by the number of votes here you may not get as many people buying out of nostalgia, but this might help you pick up the rights for cheap. And I think word of mouth will garner you plenty of sales from first time players.
I too am stunned by how few votes this game has. Truly one of the great unsung strategy games of all time. So very, very fun.
I was going to add this if no one else did. I just remember the name, I had forgotten what it was called for a few years. I'd love to have a version working on modern computers (Win7/32)!
I would totally buy this game the day it was available! Please, please, please make it available through you guys!
I know at least 5 other GoG members who would also love this. We'd all love a copy to play v eachother! Especially since we've been playing so much baldurs gate 2 and it has been perfect, no crashes or anything! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!! Thanks GoG!
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_LegionsI could not remember the name of this game and thought it was Archon Ultra. But this is much, much better!
What a great game. Would love to play it again.
I can't believe this only has 41 votes. I played this game over and over when I was younger. The best fantasy-chess-style computer game I've played.
I wanted to make this Wish!
I played this game for years and just recently got a version to play though DOSBOX. I am no computer wizard and getting it up and running was a nightmare:(, even then it still didnt work properly. I would much rather prefer to buy it at GOG and know it will work properly and maybe even have a few extra goodies to download with it. I hope it will some day be here/fingers crossed and keep on preaching the gospell brothers! haha. GOG needs this game hands down woot:).
