Played this recently, it was okay but not great. I liked the powerful engine (for that era), that you were sometimes given different missions to solve such as rescuing a hostage, and that the aliens were kept mysterious until the very end. I didn't like the lack of detail in most environments, the lack of interesting level design (too many pointless mazes in bland settings), the lack of proper boss battles, the stupid "puzzles" that often gave you no clue what to do next until you happened across the unmarked hidden door or floor switch. There are better games I'd like to see from this genre first, but this would be a fine addition.
Hidden Gem or Forgotten Diamond. This game needs its 15 minutes of fame and drm free would give it new life. My Cd has cracked badly and ebay/Amazon copies are getting rare and expensive.
This NEEDS to be played, period. The aiming system was also revolutionary for its time, as your gun could be independently aimed around the screen (I think Rare would use this for GoldenEye a few years later)...
Definitely one of those underrated gems that deserve to be rediscovered.
This game was truly EPIC. Industry firsts: 3D Map (and you can even add/remove layers!), fully articulating 3D weapon arm, level-over-level environment where catwalks really allowed movement underneath (other games had chasm-like walls on stairs), Friend-or-Foe targeting crosshairs ("friends" being items on ground or [hidden] doors, . It had an absolutely awesome soundtrack, awesome and unique weapons, great (and funny) FMV, awesome cutscenes, labyrinth levels with secrets, superb hit and kill animations, very aggressive AI, exceptional environments, different locations (military installation, office, alien spaceships, etc.) and an involving storyline. Sound feedback and quality is excellent. Objectives were clear and felt important to execute. This game took me in hook, line, and sinker......and was hard to stop playing. As a matter of fact, the soundtrack (by The Power of Seven) got my passion started with Electronic music, although I had no idea what it was called back then. I still have the box and the original disc in fully working order, although I've had no success yet getting it to work with Win7 x64 (last I tried was over a year ago).
