Johnknight1 Really loved this game as a kid. Would love to revisit it without the remaster and with more modern compatibility (and hopefully modding options to modernize things like UI, accessibility, graphics options, balance, ETC).

SpacemanSpiffed I spoke with someone at Forgotten Empires and asked about this. They would be all for releasing the original CD-ROM versions, plus patches, however they said Microsoft has zero interest in doing so. If They changed their mind, this could happen. For the 'old' version to run better on current hardware the UPatch or User Patch would be would be greatly desired. The legal status of doing so, rights, licenses, etc is however a grey, unknown area.
jusaca I would love to play AoE 1 as Definitive Edition! The old game was great, but I would prefer the comfort functions of the DE =)

Cifer84 I hate the Definitive Edition, there is nothing definitive about it. They exchanged the original music in the main menu, now it's just the standard theme, but has no similarity to the classic original theme. Don't make a masterpiece unrecognizable and call it definitive. I want the original true version on GOG, no remake bullshit.
Serpent1989 Somebody at GOG just has to hunt this game and its Addon "The Rise Of Rome" down, so that we can play it again. The only flaw the first Age Of Empires had so far was the limit of 50 people per party on the map and the flaw that the enemy combat AI only wants to attack the ome of your units that was the most wounded, no matter if on its way to that wounded unit the enemy got hacked and shot into pieces by all the other soldiers of yours, which it just ignored, lol. But you see, this game brings awesome, never-ending fun, plus you even learn a lot about ancient history. I may wear the nostalgia glasses here, as I know this game since my childhood, but seriously, we just need to have it here and I will instantly buy it, no matter the price. But PLEASE give it to us in its original form, not this new HD crap that Microsoft has published. I want the 100% original made 100% compatible with modern systems, no additions and no regrets, yet please do not forget the awesome map editor, which makes almost just as much fun as the actual game, creating your own maps, missions and even campaigns.
Proseon5 There is no place to purchase Age of Empires 1, except in it's physical CD form. We need a place to buy it digitally, as Microsoft has failed to do so.

Cifer84 Similar to Diablo 1, AoE 1 is the lost game of the series and a great one. Hopefully GOG can bring it back as they did with Diablo 1.
