Warrior Within was a controversial release. It's not surprising - the ar direction was completely different from the beautiful magical Sands of Time, the narration went from a fairy tale to a teenage Godsmack fan wet fantasy. Hell, the sand enemies BLEED. As in red blood.
These things are incredibly stupid, i'm not even going to try to justify them, apart from saying, that theread more art design is actually quite good, even if quite "grungy". But what is absolutely amazing about Warrior Within, is gameplay. The game is very open-ended, playing closer to Metroidvania title, than to the linear experience of SoT. The combat, the worst part of SoT (even though it had some good ideas and looked good), is absolutely fantastic. In fact, i still consider it the best of its kind, God of War, eat your heart out. And the acrobatics and avoiding the traps is still as good as in SoT.
So, what we have is probably the best Prince of Persia game (sorry, the classic one), which unfortunately has some issues in terms of art direction and the story. And some technical issues, which i expect to find in the GOG release as well, since the game was never patched. So you may experience no sound in several cutscenes and few annoying bugs. There are very few, but it's still a shame, that Ubisoft never bothered to fix them.
P.S. There's also a nice bonus for PoP fans in the form of tons of videos in this game. Videos about history of PoP and about making of Warrior Within. Very interesting stuff.

Warrior Within is an improvement of almost every aspect of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time as well as being the continuation of its story--a story that will continue in the third game, The Two Thrones--and as such should not be missed out on.
No longer the youth he was in the first game, an older, more harried Prince is forced on the run by a powerful and quite single-minded mythicalread more creature--which, unfortunately for the Prince, turns out to be all too real. In the course of evading his pursuer and finding a way to stop it, the Prince will visit a variety of interesting locales in two different though interwoven timelines.
Everything that was fun to do in the first game is here improved. The platforming is fast and fun and fluid, there are more things you can climb and wall-run and slide down on, there's a wider variety of enemies, and the combat is a VAST improvement on the first game with dozens of new moves.
The game was criticised on release for its aesthetic and its darker tone. It's true it doesn't retain the magical feel Sands of Time had. It's also true the setting is at times both figuratively and literally dark--at times the level design does grate. For all that, however, the game world is interesting, expansive, and worth exploring. And the sections where you are chased by the Dahaka and have to run for your life are, for me, the best part of any Prince of Persia game, ever.
A final word of advice: be sure to get all life upgrades, in order to get the Water Sword. Don't be afraid to consult a walkthrough to learn where they all are--even though the game lets you backtrack, when I played it there was a bug that prevented me from getting one of the upgrades, thus preventing me from reaching the [SPOILER REDACTED].
You'll have fun with this game.

This game decides to take the Prince of Persia series into a different path - more and better combat but less storyline.
Graphic wise it's a bit improved over The Sands of Time.
The music remains just as good as the tracks found in the previous games aswell.
The combat is very fluid and the attack options are big in numbers, along with the possibility to use your surroundingsread more as a weapon.
Sadly though, the story is very bland and there's obviously less effort put into it that the previous entry in the series.
