Immerse yourself in Ancient Egypt from the age of the great pyramids to the final years of the New Kingdom. Govern all aspects of the exotic Egyptian, culture from religion to trading with distant cities. Cultivate vast farms in the Nile valley and discover the important role this river, with its unpredictable floods, played in the life of the Egyptians. Stone by stone, erect giant monuments - from the Sphinx, to the lighthouse and library of Alexandria.
Manage your city poorly and you shall watch it burn, be pillaged or collapse in economic ruin. Manage it well and ultimately the greatest Egyptian structures will be built in your honor. Your rule will span generations, until your dynasty, your royal bloodline produces a Pharaoh!
Pharaoh includes many features never before seen in a city building game, such as a farming model based on the flooding of the Nile, naval warfare, giant monuments that are assembled over time, unique dynastic progression, and variable difficulty levels. This a massively addictive, huge, but most importantly fun game that is a great choice for anyone looking for a solid city builder title, or an intellectual challenge.

This is one of the best city building games I've ever played. I play it every summer, because it has that unexplainable warm atmosphere, that gets you every time you see the intro movie. It has intuitive controls, very approachable learning curve, yet it's challenging in the later stages plus it looks gorgeous even now, more than 10 years after it's release. Oh, and don't forgetread more the soundtrack with very catchy "egyptian" tunes, that will stick in your mind for a very long time. This version comes with Cleopatra expansion, which adds roughly 20 hours of gameplay to the endless fun of the original, for just 10 bucks, this is simply a bargain.

I got horrifically addicted to this game, and my life was essentially on hold for a few months while all my spare time was spent playing it. It's a huge amount of fun, probably the best city-building game I've ever played (I could never get into Caesar III or Zeus the way I got into this). I would buy it all over again if I didn't think I'd fall into the same trap again.

I was hoping for this the moment that I saw Zeus & Poseidon pop up. This game got me into city building in a huge way - it's amazingly detailed without being too deep and allows for a variety of ways to build up your city - you'll find yourself improving each and every time you play.
If you have even a passing interest in city building/management I suggest you pick up this game and Zeus & Poseidon as well.
