Overview:

It’s 1982. Auto-terrorism is running rampant while the U.S. languishes in crisis. Groove Champion goes missing and it’s up to Taurus to find him before he becomes a tire track in an all-out war on wheels. Warm up the engine, reload your roof-mounted machine guns, and head on out to the interstate--Interstate ‘82.

Interstate ‘82 features fully charged vehicular combat along with accurate car-handling physics, including realistic suspension and fishtail spins in over 40 missions. A new feature of Interstate ‘82 is the ability to get out of the car, car-jack another driver’s ride, and even run for cover if the need arises.

Put the pedal to the metal in Interstate ‘82 and fill your enemies with fear and lead!

Entertaining, but a disappointing sequel

If you want an immersive, charming vehicle combat game with stunning funk music, great voice acting, and fun gameplay then check out the prequel - Interstate '76 (also on GoG) instead. It really is the pinnacle of the genre, and I can't recommend it highly enough.
If, however you would rather something a little more arcade like then Interstate '82 might be more your thing. Itread more isn't necessarily a bad game, and somewhat approaches the console spin-off series Vigilante 8 in feel, but in order to do that it loses a lot of what made '76 special.
tl;dr - If you enjoyed '76 then you might have fun with this too, but if you loved '76 you could be in for disappointment.

A decent game, but not the gem 76 was

Interstate 82 is not a bad game per se; however, it suffered from a grave error at the hands of Activision. Interstate 76 was developed by one team and Heavy Gear another. Since Heavy Gear had so many issues Activision switched teams for the franchises so the golden child I76 team went to work on Heavy Gear 2 (an awesome game) and the lackluster Heavy Gear team went to work on I82 which was kind of a flop compared to I76.

If you have time...

I kept a good souvenir from trying out the shareware version because the game offered instant fun, it felt very accessible and more arcade than I76. Now that I have played the entire game, I understand why it had so little success. Graphics are really bad for a 1999 game. Physics engine will not make you feel like stunting on the hills like in Carmageddon. On the contrary, you willread more be extremely careful because bugs can drive you into obstacles and damage your car. Sounds are rather bad, especially voices. Once outside the car, the gameplay gets even worse. Watch ingame videos to make up your mind.
