Gods Will Be Watching: Special Edition Upgrade
Description
Includes Gods Will Be Watching and Gods Will Be Watching: Special Edition Upgrade.

Gods Will Be Watching is a minimalistic “point and click thriller” centered on despair, commitment, and sacrifice as players face narrative puzzles and moral dilemmas that will affect both the lives of your team and the people you’re are sworn to protect.

Set against the backdrop of an interstellar struggle, Gods Will Be Watching follows Sgt. Burden and his crew in six tense chapters from hostage situations and wilderness survival to biological weapon prevention and agonizing torture scenarios. Each decision is crucial and players will need to choose between the lives of their team and the saving the world from genocide. There's no good or evil, just decisions, with only you and the gods as a judge to your actions.
  • Set morals aside as you navigate Sgt. Burden and his team through harrowing predicaments and make decisions that will either save your team or sacrifice their lives for the sake of the mission.
  • Solve a wide variety of narrative puzzles and moral dilemmas using your own wits and burden the consequences of your choices. Do you intimidate or comfort your hostages to maintain your tenuous control of the situation? Should you kill the weakest member of your party to save on food for the strong? What is one life worth in the face of annihilation?
  • An innovative departure from the traditional point and click adventure taking place in six intimate, tension-filled scenarios linked together through an epic narrative of interstellar espionage.

Misunderstood gem

In my opinion this game is a misunderstood gem mostly because in the description the word "point&click adventure' is mentioned and Because of that a lot of people expected something different like searching every pixel for stuff, combining it in the inventory and so on. But this game isn't a classical point&click adventure. I'd rather compare it with Faster Than Light, where the focus is on the crew menagement and makin decisions. This game is played turnbased. So you first make a decision and then it's the enemys turn. You can only make one action per turn so you have to choose wisely. The game is hard as nails and making one wrong decision can lead to a game over, especially when you are playing the game in normal mode. In easy mode you will also die often but not as offen as in normal mode. So you have to play one situation over and over until you find the right balance between several possible decisions. This is what the game is all about. As you can read on the developers homepage it was also their intention to make a hard game where you'll loose offen.

Very flawed game design

The game gives likable impression at first glance, I saw the intro and thought "great, another adventure like Sword and Sorcery or Kentucky Road Zero". However, the first scene was an immediate bucked of cold water over your head - not an adventure game, but a stress simulator with unclear game mechanics. Basically, you command a team in a stressful, high risk scenario, but none of them can operate independently, which is accidentally exactly the very recipe to failure. You have to micromanage everything. You have to tell the hacker to hack or secure network. If you don't, he won't do squat on his own. Guard must be told to shoot. So it's like a military encounter where all your soldiers are standing still, while you run around with a little pistol, trying to win the war on your own. Of course you will fail - just as the designer of this game has failed. Two stars for the effort.

This is NOT an adventure game!

Although the story and moral dilemas you face are the driver of this wonderful "adventure", this is not the classic adventure game some might expect. The mechanics of the game resemble more a turn-based strategy game (HINT, every action is one turn) and while you take a certain course of action, other things will happen in the meantime, making it fun and challenging to keep it all together and complete the chapter. One of the best things is that IT'S UP TO YOU how you go through a chapter, and boy are they different from one another... This game kept me playing and replaying levels (to unlock achievements and bonus content) for 3 days straight, not an easy task for something released post 2010. Give it a try, if you like challenge and a great story!

Ugly in the outside

I gave this game a chance a few months ago and I was really dissapointed. I was expecting a modern adventure game and I got this plain stressful sort of puzzle game. But recently I gave it a second chance and knowing what I was facing I knew what to expect better. I really had an amazing time playing it. The problem is that the first two chapters are really hard to deal with for a first time player. The mechanics are sort of different to any others and might seem like a design error but it's not. From chapter 3 to 5 the game is really challenging and fun I really enjoyed it and it's when the story starts to really take shape. This game won't blow your mind but at least tries to be original and different. I think it's underrated. The first chapter is the main issue with it, it's too complicated and if you're not in the mood of learning something new it will be frustrating, unless you play in easy mode.

Decent game

Could have given 5 but I do agree there is a steep learning curve at start. PROs: Make you think about what should be acceptable and what is not. Great Sound. Great Scenarios where your current mistakes get carried forward and accumulate or help you :). You can be an asshole, good guy, smart , suicidal whichever way you want to be. TIP: There is always a person that tells you how to manage the situation. Remember green dialog options are free. Cons Game is TOUGH!! The recommended mode is way tough. The game steep curve is usually because of our Moral issues like "dont shoot the hostage". Visual clues if missed really get you back. If you want the ending you want . You need to replay again and again.
