The game is awesome but you need to know few things

Ok, Dungeon Keeper is a cult classic. 5/5 stars stuff, and I expect mine to be the worst review here.
But I'm not reviewing the game per se, I'm reviewing the GOG release.
This is Dungeon Keeper for DOS, the low resolution version that runs with a software renderer and has no directx compatibility. This is also not compatible with the "Deeper Dungeons" expansion pack,read more which is not included.
The game is awesome, it runs on dosbox so it's 100% compatible with modern systems, BUT, keep in mind it's just not the best version around.

Minions, traps, and full-blown madcap corruption

Being bad never felt so good. Dungeon Keeper satisfies my most viscous and diabolical urges by turning fantasy RPG tropes on their heads and celebrating the cunning of the Bad Guy. If Duke Nukem 3D broke new ground with its politically incorrect attitude, Dungeon Keeper sows that same ground with salt and sets bunny snares every five steps.
The game is a sandbox of architecturalread more challenges. Nestled deep in the hoary underworld, you must decide how best to lure monsters into your service by building the ultimate dungeon. Lava flows, subterranean rivers, and other natural obstacles will drive your plans awry as you delve for riches and power.
Be cautious, but fast: the do-gooder denizens of the surface will eventually catch wind of your evil designs and send heroes to dispatch you. To succeed, you must ensure they'll pay for every inch of ground with their blood.
This game has hooks that will sink deep into your memory and never let go. You *will* hear that silken, contrite voice admonishing the fey foibles of good, even at odd hours in your head. Slap a minion to make it work harder, or slap a chicken and watch it explode into feathers. Delight in the whooping sadism of the Mistress, and try to keep your Horned Demons from biting your other minion's heads off. Dungeon Keeper has personality to spare.
Dungeon Keeper is one of the finest games to come from Bullfrog's stables. Peter Molyneux: take a hint from the longevity of this game and find your dark heart again.
Absolute MUST BUY for anyone who ever pulled wings off flies, held magnifying glasses over anthills, or clubbed a baby seal.

Real sandbox!

I always liked this game. Its unique because of the very concept of being evil lord spanking and rushing your nasty minions.
Why it's good?
- you carve the dungeon, tunnels and caves, you decide of the shape of battlefield
- you train your minions, care for them, provide food and entertain them
- you can even take direct control of one of them and walk paths they made, see yourread more creation with eyes of controled minion
- soundtrack, its amasing, grim and full of chains :)
What is all about?
Dungeon Keeper is some sort of RTS. You have your minions, you decide of their life and death using your godlike hand but u don't control them. Most part of the game is to create nice habitats for any type of monsters that can wander to your dungeon. Lure them by offering specific types of caves. When they finaly come they will work for you if you ensure they are fed and have a place to play. Some mosters just like to work, other like to train fighting skills, some love to torment other creatures... and there is Horny.
Horny?
Best fighter and most agresive creature in dungeon. He is amasingm, he loves to fight... everyone. If he is bored he will beat your own slaves. He's always hungry and ready to fight.
Fight? Fight who?
You are evil so someone must be the good one. And there is. There are some wining elves, greedy dwarfs and all sorts of pesky so-colled heroes who will come to get your gold mined from dungeon by hard-working imps. Don't let them. Train the dragons and show them who's the boss.
This game is realy fun. Even if you finish it you will love to come back and hunt some shining knight with your grimm army.
Back in the days this game was mind-blowing. RTS, but not RTS, evil aproach to the subject, first person tour through a world you created, even if its created with blocks of dirt.
Why not 4 stars?
I think Dungeon Keeper 2 is better. Better graphic and few other small things that makes it ultimate dungeon simulation. I love to see it here. I think its Bullfrog that owns it now.
