Description
In a world where magic and technology exist side by side, vampire princess Alwen must reclaim her ancestral castle and her magic alongside her unlikely ally, treasure hunter Ragna Valentine. They may make for an odd pair, but when they combine their talents, the sky’s the limit!
  • Two Playable Characters for Tag-Team Action
No need to go it alone when you’ve got the power of two on your side. Ragna roughs up foes in melee range, while Alwen fires off salvos of powerful magic or locks down enemies from afar. Switch between the two on the fly to create crazy combos!

  • Unique Food-Based Experience System Gives Greater Control Over Leveling
Experience is gained through eating food, so you can choose to cash in immediately, or save it to trade later for food worth even more EXP. You can even beat the game at level 1...if you dare.

  • Strange and Quirky Setting with Strange and Quirky Characters
The residents of Ilvard are a lively lot, and you can learn more about each one in your spare time as the story progresses. What’s the deal with that chain-smoking nun? Which of the three maids shirks the most work? And... is that a girl in a giant penguin costume?

  • Brand New, Expanded English Voices
We’ve greatly expanded on the Japanese release’s voice acting, with over 2000 never-before-voiced lines bringing the twists and turns of the main story to life.

Ace mix of Falcom action and adventure!

Of all the great releases in 2017, I can't think of any already this underrated. Zwei: The Ilvard Insurrection (originally Zwei II) is Falcom's 2008 Windows-era swan song, a game which they poured a lot of effort into only for it to bomb in Japan. While it's too early to guess the impact a lesser-known Falcom classic can have now, I highly recommend fans of ARPGs and nostalgic adventures give this a shot. This game's a standalone sequel to Zwei!!, an earlier game from 2001 which revitalized Falcom and led to greater adventures including the revival of the Ys series, the Trails/Kiseki franchise as we know it, and standalone adventures like Gurumin and Xanadu Next. You absolutely do not need to play Zwei!! to understand or greatly appreciate the sequel which we've just received in English for the first time. Ilvard Insurrection evolves its prequel's mechanics, structure, and uniquely humorous and heartfelt style of writing. You'll meet and learn all about a motley assortment of people and new friends, trek through seemingly repetitive but well-designed dungeon stages, and defeat appropriately fell beasts and villains to save a floating continent. The game revels in surprise, from unassuming wordplay and snark to some rather moving parts of the plot and character development. Because of the game's unique EXP system which lets you control how fast or slow you outmatch foes, the game's well-paced and encourages you to master simple but skillful combat. By the game's end, you'll have combo-ed many an enemy, solved a beguiling gallery of puzzles, and discovered the secrets of Ilvard. Both protagonists grow with each other in style! I wouldn't compare this game much to Ys or Trails, like apples to oranges to bananas. Nor is it much like Gurumin despite sharing the same engine (which explains why, until XSEED's fix arrives, the visuals run at 30 with inputs at 60). On its own merits, Zwei: II's evergreen and colorful, and I'd hate for it to go unnoticed like Xanadu Next.

Falcom's Zwei II is a hidden-gem

I did not know where I was getting into until I started playing. Being a Falcom fan for some years, that played to now nearly every english released game, I can say this one was a hidden-gem until Xseed decided to localize it. Gameplay-wise, it is close to Nayuta no Kiseki, that is one of the best ARPG that I played. The game's plot is good, nothing extraordinary, but good, and will slowly turns from “unpretentious” to “more interesting”. But what shines here is the gameplay and the characters. The game features some very interesting characters, as the “exotic” church's nun or Pokkle and Pipiro, the previous games protagonists. I found one of the antagonists interesting too, and the game features some surprises. Journeying through Granvallen, Zwei's world, some characters will grow, as Alwen and Ragna, personally and with their bond. The dungeons are varied, and have an structure where the player explore segments, are evaluated by some metrics and given a medal according to their performance. It has several extra contents, big bonus dungeons and optional content. The game is easy, first dungeons pose nearly no challenge, but the difficulty will increase on the fourth dungeon forth, but with the abundance of food (that heals and is the source of EXP), it will not really be high. The game has a “New Game +” feature, where you carry your data and has some extra contents for the new journey. A highly recommended Action RPG, fun, with likeable characters, good OST and colourful graphics. It has some good voice actors (like Alwen and one person that I will not mention here). Thanks XSEED for bringing this Falcom game to us!

Another great Nihon Falcom game

Game is a lot of fun. Similar to the YS games but it is different. I like how it has monster/character info, fun gameplay, good music, decent story, funny characters (Even random NPC's), fun boss battles, and just some cute things here and there. The only complaint I have right now (I am in the late game I believe), would be that cutscenes are not skippable. This really sucks if you either died or had to quit then continue later and have to replay scenes you've already seen. On that note now that I thnk about it, I'm not sure you can pause the scenes either which I count as another negative.
