Description
Enjoy a long-awaited reunion with the Boron in X4: Kingdom End, the fourth expansion for X4: Foundations, which completes the collection of the main factions in the X Universe. Discover the unique Boron ships, and fly them through distinctive systems, on a journey of discovery. Visit fascinating places, uncover old secrets and make new acquaintances. Embark on an immersive new chapter of X4!

An expedition into the unknown
Heretic's End holds a secret to be discovered. Flickering lights on a previously inactive jump gate are causing a stir. Joining forces in the name of cooperation, a multifactional expedition sets out to investigate the phenomenon. Prepare for an immersive story of collaboration, where many vastly different minds must pull together for the greater good.

Unique new ships will take your breath away
Boron ships are as unconventional as you would expect from such an extraordinary species. X4: Kingdom End introduces a wide variety of Boron ships of different classes, which excel with their fluid designs, their wavelike shell animation, and their distinctive grace and uniqueness. Come aboard and experience what may very well be the most breath-taking ships in the X-Universe. Among others, you can look forward to:

Ray (Destroyer)
As though it had just emerged from the water, and was waiting for its prey with bared teeth, the Ray destroyer impresses with its delicate construction. But, one should not be dazzled by it for too long; even the normally peace-loving Boron will defend themselves if necessary.

Shark (Carrier)
With its sweeping form and a dynamism all of its own, the Boron XL carrier immediately casts a spell over anyone who sets eyes on it. Perhaps its greatest surprise, however, is easily overlooked at first glance. With the ability to have smaller ships dock and launch from the side, the carrier provides a distinct advantage on the battlefield that should not be underestimated.

X4: Foundations 6.00 Update
X4: Kingdom End is being released at the same time as the extensive 6.00 update for X4: Foundations. As is our tradition, we will once again be introducing a number of significant improvements to the base game in this major, free update for all X4 owners. We won't be able to show the full changelog until a later date, but X4 players can already get excited about the following upcoming 6.00 improvements:

  • Position Defence, a new feature which allows you to have a carrier-led fleet defend a larger area
  • A new cinematic camera cutscene mode
  • Improvements in, among other things, AI combat and fleet behaviour, trade behaviour, boarding, salvaging, docking experience, flight pathing, low attention combat simulation, and the station editor
  • UI and quality-of-life improvements
  • Performance improvements
  • ... and much more

All I had hoped for and then some

Finally the Borons are back! After the supernova (which changed everything...) we had to wait so long for meeting the friendliest race in the X universe again. This expansion not only offers a new faction but also integrates very nicely into the existing universe by. Like they promised, Egosoft created an immersive expedition to find the long lost Borons. While the other expansion focused a lot on conflict and war this one is about exploration, trading and building. At some point of the story it reminds me of the X:Rebirth DeVries system - in a positive way. The Boron ships and stations are visually stunning and have their very own way of fighting their enemies, utilising ion weapons and engine disruption effects. For people who just want to go into the action I recommend the custom gamestart editor - that way one can shape the starting conditions to the own liking. From adding a small fleet / some stations and define the HQ location there are a lot possibilites. I'm playing this game series since X:Beyond the frontier and I'm especially fond of X² (immersion) / X³:TC (gameplay balancing). Also liked X:Rebirth up to the point that I couldn't fly all the beautiful ships. X4 I consider the pinnacle of the series so far. I'm looking forward for the next steps (minus the online features, I hope they don't drain important resources to evolve the singleplayer game further)

X4 is finally complete

The "new" Boron are stunning. Beautiful animations, great textures, etc. Not the biggest fan of some of the Boron's voices but that is subjective. The new ships and stations are pretty cool. Didn't have time to check them all but they certainly add another angle to the way you can play the game. Some of those Boron weapons are pretty unique. The story is pretty egosofty but overall one of the better executed story lines. I didn't run into any bugs or other issues related to stories. I may find it a bit too easy to unlock access to the Boron. It's also not perfectly clear where to kick off the story in the first place. Only by checking the messages tab or checking the web you will get hints of where to go. The new sectors are nothing that special. The music is nice but overall not much happening there. I was hoping for something a little more spectacular. But I don't really see the appeal to do much with these sectors in a well established game. Maybe I missed something but that makes the add-on a little underwhelming. At least Boson Ta finally gets the fresh Bofu he requested back when Foundations came out. The new game version is working find and seems to handle large stations a little better. Ships avoid newly added hazardous areas well but I'm not sure if they are now smart enough to avoid others (e.g. the Void) too. Solid 4 star rating if not 5. Great job and I hope that this is not the end of the road for X4 just yet.

After buying complete collection...

you release the nth DLC. That you need to buy separately. So, so bad.

Worth the price IMO

Not much of a review, but I've owned X4 since launch, and the entire time I played I always hoped there would be a ship to replace my old Panther from X3TC. And now with the Guppy, I can finally have a light, fast carrier. You took your time Egosoft, but you came through. 5/5 would purchase again. In light of the other comments, I can't speak for the issues with the story as I never play the story missions, especially near launch (just a thing with X games). For example, I'm just now starting the Tides of Avarice plot as my first dedicated plot since launch (I'm in it for the sandbox). The plot has been addressed in every patch since KE launched, so at least Ego is aware that there's issues. I will say the new physics system has been working well for me though. It was never perfect, and any weirdness I've seen I can chalk up to the pathfinding 'cheating' maybe to avoid issues. Just a guess, but I haven't noticed anything super concerning myself (not to say it hasn't happened).

X4 just gets better with every update and DLC

Beautiful! X4 just gets better and better with each update and DLC Egosoft bring. Historically Egosoft have always been a slow burner, for the fans with patience waiting for years after a particular game in the series has released, they polish it to the best it can be. X4 has not dissappointed. Egosoft are still honing the edge on this superb game. And this DLC is just another layer of icing on the cake. For an Indie developer, they show triple A titles how things should be done, I would put Egosoft in the same light as Hellogames with their No Man's Sky title, ie excellent long term support on a beautiful game. X4 is a unique experience which no other game in similar genres can compete with, nobody else simulates a galactic economy in real time. The Boron DLC is a long time wish for me, love the race, and Egosoft have done them proud :D
