If you are fan of old school RPG, 80s and 90s Wrestling, and have always had a soft spot for action figures this game does not disappoint.
I am not a massive fan of most newer games and tend to play classic games over new ones, just to give some perspective.
That being said there are times where the game feels a little boring because of all the dialogue and running around but I like RPG games because of the storyline and puzzle aspect. Overall I really like the creativity of the idea for a wrestling RPG and the fact the characters are self aware toys makes it comical as well.
While the concept is exciting and the game looks promising the first 10 hours or so, the game just delves into a rather complex storyline, which takes place over a very long narrative you must read.
Also, the game does not play like an open world RPG, as the story unfolds rather linearly and not openly in free explorration. You can't really see the whole map, despite it being rather large there is no map functionality you can explore to jump back to certain parts of the game to complete side quests.
The moves are really cool and make the game even more promising, but that's where the excitement it ends. Some moves you acquire rather early in the game the first few character levels but then you don't play those characters to combine the moves until almost 75% of the game or so, which makes little sense to acquire the moves at all.
Finally, if you've ever played Final Fantasy IV, the one about the Golbez saga, that's kind of how this game plays, with character story lines switching between one another without any control from the player.
At one point I just wanted to beat the game to move along to another, as the game offers nothing new after the first 15 or so hours. It's just long for the sake of being long, story line is rather complex it's not really for small children to pay attention to such detail and it's not really open world.
Could've been a lot better, and adding to the drag is battles are rather slow to load for some reason although this may be a limitation of my own hardware.
Overall, skip if you're into true open world RPGs. I hope they make a second game and they keep the good elements of this one, like the many cool moves you acquire throughout the game.
First off, I need to clarify two things. I love turn based rpgs and I loved/grew up with classic 80s and 90s wrestling. I am deeply nostalgic for those years where I saw these men in tights on tv fighting every week and believing superheroes were real. So the fact that this game didn't hook me should be a red flag to stay away. I don't know exactly why either, something is just off, the gameplay isn't fun as it should be. The story is throwaway. The use of the source material and classic wrestlers feels wasted. The original content and "wrestlers" feel horribly uninspired and meant to appeal to actual toddlers. The world doesn't feel like a fantasy pro wrestling world.
It's just whatever. You could take this idea and play as wrestling is real and have a Yakuza style world with crazy encounters and multiple wrestling storylines etc. But instead this is just overly generic and leans into the reality of wrestling where you need to throw matches to make your opponent look good and yet you are toys and I don't have words to describe it. Go back to the drawing board and try again.
Great story, been really enjoying the game play as well.
