Unique concept, annoying at times.
The game looks good and the gameplay is innovative and fluid. Each character is unique and comes with its own skill tree that allows you to customize it. This gives quite a interesting tactical and strategical variety as some skills synergize with other from other characters, making the idea of "teamwork" quite an important part of the game itself. Upgrades and unlocks matter and may even be essential for various combat maps down the road. (see below) The enemies are also quite varied and interesting. There are a number of "boss" units that you will encounter couple of time and that will deliver a challenging and even annoying experience, ramping up the difficulty and forcing the player to do additional missions just to level up and try again. Even so, these missions become a chore and repeating them trying to find the winning combination of skills draws the fun away. The main problem comes from the story itself. Childish and yet disturbingly mature. Terrorism and humor? Apparently they suppose to work together somehow? It feels like the game tries too hard to appeal to a specific audience, and that's fine, but it limits the enjoyment of others Not everyone must have a past trauma, not everyone must be an undeveloped teen with issues, not everyone must be as diverse as the cast of a corporate sitcom. But it is, and it is forced, it lacks real soul, despite posing as having one. If the corporate wanted to make a decent game, this is the best they could have done. And for me that equals "buy on sale only".
