What's cool about it:

  • THIEF™ GOLD includes THIEF™ THE DARK PROJECT and the GOLD update (three new campaign missions which deepen the plot and five new types of enemies).
  • An immersive stealth experience from a first person perspective, allowing direct confrontation if desired.
  • Pioneer of the stealth game genre for the PC and the first game to use light and sound gameplay mechanics.
  • Unique atmosphere of tension powered by ubiquitous darkness and suspense.

Having received training from an enigmatic organization known as the Keepers, Garrett leaves the order and goes back to the life of a thief on the streets of the City. Once you enter the underworld you have to deal with all the consequences - you are not the only one out there looking for decent loot. Hide in the shadows of the dark, savage city. Sneak into old ruins, haunted cathedrals and mansions of the rich. Incapacitate your enemies quietly or in an open fight. This unique sneak-em-up game provides you with a range of means to achieve your goal. Remember though - secrecy is your best friend.

THIEF™ GOLD is a first-person perspective stealth game. It was the first game to use light and sound gameplay mechanics – different surfaces cause varying noise (for example carpets are quiet and ceramic tiles are very loud). You can use sound to your advantage - it’s not only your main source of information on how close your enemies are but you can use it to distract them, for example by throwing objects. With unscripted levels, and objectives and paths altered based on difficulty settings, THIEF™ GOLD can give you hours of non-repetitive gameplay.

Age requirements: ESRB Rating: MATURE with Animated Blood, Animated Violence.

Minimum system requirements: Windows XP or Windows Vista, 1.8 GHz Processor, 512MB RAM (1 GB recommended), 3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 7 (compatible with DirectX 9 recommended), 2GB HDD, Mouse, Keyboard.

The first stealth-FPS game

Posted on 2012-01-31 07:06:41 bywooglah's avatarwooglah:

The first FPS in which you are expected to be stealthy, and not aggressive: Avoid guards, make no sound, keep to the shadows, draw a barely comprehensible map with your hand, release the prisoners and get the GOLD! Non-linear levels are made in explorer's heaven, every room can be finished in several ways, timing is everything and best of all, there are paranormal activities involved!

My favorite game OF ALL TIME comes to GOG

Posted on 2012-01-31 07:52:04 bybabby's avatarbabby:

When someone asks me what my favorite game is, I do not hesitation: Thief: The Dark Project.
The sound, the gameplay, the art design, everything about this game oozes that handcrafted care that reached its zenith in the late 1990s/early 2000s; every speck of this game the utmost attention to detail. It is truly a soulful labor of love, someone's masterpiece.
Now on to the game!
You'llread more spend a lot of time, especially at the highest difficulties, lurking. After that, you do a bit more lurking. And then you lurk a little while longer. You are in a lively, vivid world with environments you must learn. One mistake could cost you your life.
But learning the areas comes with the greatest reward of all: you get to finally make a decision on how you want to complete the mission. This game is in your hands, each level done your way, its outcome shaped by your decisions.
There is no getting stuck in this game. You ran out of arrows? Fine. You'll just have to work harder and smarter. This game challenges your creative improvisation abilities. The tools are there, but you have to find and use them properly.
No horror game can match the sheer terror this game makes you feel. Whether what you encounter is human or otherwise, your heart will race and you'll feel your fear deep down.
I cannot recommend this game enough. There is nothing like the Thief series; it is an achievement in game design which may never be duplicated again.

Thief is here. Rejoice!

Posted on 2012-01-31 07:10:16 byTitanium's avatarTitanium:

You play a lone thief in a city full of internal strife, powerful forces that tear it apart and greedy man with influence and wealth that try to slice a big chunk for them self. And because of this, there are all sorts of men and creatures that are there to protect their master's interests. And if there is one unifying factor with them, is that they all hate thieves. and especiallyread more one named Garrett.
At a time of it's inception, gaming was evolving at an increased rate, and nothing proves this more than this game. It was a game that did the opposite of most other games: it challenged you to do what you had to do without being seen, ideally without killing anyone. For this, you weren't well armed either - a blackjack and a sword for close encounters, a bow that had limited arrows that were mostly useful only when you were concealed, and a pair of lock-picks. That was basically all you needed, too, for the shadows were your one true weapon. Hide in it's embrace and they will protect you better than any armor or weapon.
Hopping from shadow to shadow, you must slowly reach your objectives. On your way, you can swipe any loot you find, for you are a thief after all. But I hear you say: "I don't want to play as a criminal, I want to play as a valiant knight." Well, in a city like this, a thief is about the most honest man you can find.
In short, this game is a classic, go own it you taffer!
