What's cool about it:

  • Includes the original The Settlers® IV and its two expansions: The Settlers® IV: The Trojans and the Elixir of Power and The Settlers® IV Mission CD along with a random map generator.
  • Iron supplies at an end? Maybe you can get your hands on some of your neighbor’s surplus metal by trading in some of those coal reserves!
  • Four races with their own campaigns: the Romans, the Mayans, the Vikings, and the Trojans. Each has their own individual style in dress, weapons, alcohol, and magic!
  • Show off your tactical genius and steel your defenses by appointing Squad Leaders and deploying your soldiers with more precision than ever before!

Overview:

Just because of a little uprising, Morbus has been banished to Earth by HIM, the highest god of all. It really could not have been worse for this particular villain, as Morbus cannot bear the sight of anything green. He definitely doesn’t plan on letting it stay that way – his Dark Tribe will soon be waging war on the Earth’s flora and fauna.

The Romans, the Mayans, the Vikings, and the Trojans are the four industrious little races you’ll be settling with. The seamless zoom function allows you to take a close-up peek as your settlers go about their daily business, or to zoom out for a bird’s-eye view of how your very own empire is coming along. Put your settling skills to the test as you gather resources, establish and manage trade routes, manufacture goods, or wage war. It’s up to you to lead your tiny settlers to victory! Are you up to the task?

Multiplayer notice: The game's multiplayer servers have been taken offline, however, multiplayer over LAN is still available.

Age requirements: ESRB Rating: EVERYONE with Violence.

Minimum system requirements: Windows XP / Vista / 7 , 1.4 GHz Processor, 512MB RAM (1 GB recommended), 3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 9.0c, Mouse, Keyboard.

My first Settlers experience

Posted on 2013-07-18 06:28:44 byNethren's avatarNethren:

I played this when I was little, so my evaluation of the gameplay is not going to be precise or explanatory but I enjoyed the game nevertheless. Brings back memories that I spammed pioneers and really didn't care about the opponent and my people, leading them to protest and for the opponent to conquer me. Along with Settlers 2, I think Settlers 4 forms the vanguard for presenting the Settlers series.

Still my favorite

I've been waiting for this game to be re-released for forever. :D
It's a very simple, old school RTS. You turtle for an hour, expand your city, build a massive army, and then overrun your enemy. Nothing too complicated and it's all in 2d, but it is so much fun. Unlike entries after it, there's no hero characters or complex economy, but it still has a nice, simple story. It alsoread more has several different playable factions, each with a degree of uniqueness, which is different from other Settlers games. More like C&C: Generals or something.
The gold version includes an expansion that has a lot of content, so it's not at all a short game.
If you enjoy the old "turtle/expand/crush" RTS games, this will be a lot of fun. There's some fairly difficult missions as well.

My pick of the bunch

I have played most of the Settlers games, either demo or full version, but for me this is the one to get.
Visuals are great, the micromanagement aspect is well done and very intricate, and even on Easy this game will give you a hard time!
The not so good is the AI, basically it just spams soldiers and then whacks you, meaning you really need to concentrate and work to win. Theread more other big issue I have is the occasional lack of space, and the difficulty of clearing land.
For anyone using AMD Dual Graphics enabled laptops, this game won't load, so if you purchase it, make sure you have a second system without the AMD Dual Graphics system (the APU + discrete graphics).
