Description
Experience the exciting universe of The Expanse like never before in Telltale’s latest adventure, The Expanse: A Telltale Series. Take on the role of Camina Drummer and explore the dangerous and uncharted edges of the Belt aboard the Artemis. From scavenging wrecked ships in a zero-g environment, to surviving a mutiny, to combating fearsome pirates, you make the difficult choices and reveal Camina Drummer’s resolve in this latest Telltale adventure.

A TELLTALE STORY LIKE NO OTHER

Immerse yourself in the role of Camina Drummer, the Executive Officer aboard the Artemis, a scavenging ship hunting for a big score in the outer regions of the Belt. You must corral a crew rife with tense relationships and powerful personalities, and make tough decisions that will decide everyone’s fate.

EXPLORE THE BELT IN ZERO-G

Scour shipwrecks, use mag boots to walk on walls and ceilings, and utilize zero-g thrusters to float through the void. As you fly through sections of ships and the open expanse of space, interact with objects in the world and converse with members of the crew in the largest and most immersive exploration of any Telltale game to date.

DIFFICULT CHOICES, GRAVE CONSEQUENCES

Contend with the unforgiving brutality of space, the politics of a corrupt solar system, the animosities of your crew, and Drummer’s own conflicting responsibilities to the people she cares about and the Belt she has sworn to protect. There is no right or wrong path - only your choices and the consequences they unleash.

INCLUDES ALL 5 EPISODES

Episode 1: Archer's Paradox
Episode 2: Hunting Grounds
Episode 3: First Ones
Episode 4: Impossible Objects
Episode 5: Europa's Folly

The developers describe the content like this: There are optional romance choices, although they fade to black. There are multiple un-skippable sections where you move past and interact with decapitated corpses. There are optional times where you can drink alcohol, or provide alcohol for others to drink. There are multiple times when you have to, or have the option to kill people, or to hurt them.

Bad controls and not much gameplay

I don't see any review here, why? Did the devs removed them? Doesn't live up to the "telltale" previous games, they have invested a lot of money into motion capture and they forgot about gameplay and branching story lines. Sparse number of points of interest (stuff to click on and get some info or objects out of it) Also those that are included are mostly boring and pointless. Amateur level of character control. Controls are awful. Character movement is unrealistically speed up because they have big areas with nothing to do and walking normally would had took forever. This shows a lack of planning and thinking about the game structure. They found out out after the game was mostly complete that there is nothing to do. So speed up the character fix. Right, good work. Facial tracking looks bad, something really did not worked with the motion capture. I've got better face tracking in unreal using an old iphone than what they have in this game. Story is not grasping, this is not The Wolf Among Us or Walking Dead. Stereotypical characters, no one to love or passionately hate like in the "walking dead". Just a bland mix of meh. Gameplay is going from point A to B to move up the story. Fine, nothing different from past games here, but those had interesting environments to discover, stuff to found out about, interact with other characters, have dialogue options based on the past events. No such things here in this game. Dialogue is sparse, apart the cut scenes, you "explore" confusing all looking the same repeating environments of blown up ships, picking up random objects that you don't ever need. Got till episode 2 on steam where they've included a stealth section that is, as you may imagine, bad because of the controls. Died multiple times because characters gets stuck every time in some invisible corner. Lost interest right there. Get this when it cost 2$

The game is good, but short

The criticism of the gameplay is fair, but I play these games for the story and characters. The characters are okay, the actors are great, the animations are good, the music in the background is perfect. It's a shame that there are few episodes and they are short. There's not enough time to immerse yourself in the universe or really get attached to the characters. I really enjoyed the game. I'm glad it's available on GOG and I hope Telltale doesn't die

Intense

I like Visual Novels so I am little biased, but this is excllent additon to that genre. I did not watched TV show but I have really enjoyed this. It was hard work to get ending I wanted but it was all worth it.

Doesn't feel like a Telltale Game

The Expanse didn't remind me of a Telltale game, or even some of Deck Nine's other games like the Life Is Strange series. It just didn't feel like it had the same passion behind it - like they just didn't care much for the property. Instead, it offered a disappointingly linear story, with minimal room for player agency or meaningful decisions. One of the criticisms of later Telltale games was that there wasn't enough gameplay. I was one of those critics, but having played this game, I now realize that a little bad gameplay is better than a lot of bad gameplay. The Expanse had way too much tedious exploration of empty, boring environments, rewarding the player with empty, boring dialogue. The game had some promising ideas, but none of them felt fully fleshed out. What's particularly worrisome is the possibility that this game might hurt Telltale's chances of a comeback. I was one of their biggest fans, and I hope to be again some day, but unfortunately this game just didn't make the landing, for whatever reason. Still rooting for you, Telltale!

The Expanse

I own the game for Playstatiopn, but consider buying it here again as big fan of the original series allthough the game has missed the mark. The Expanse was the ultimate Sci-Fi serioes ever aired in decades with the last season ending in a premature technical death-ish. Telltale delivers us with a prequel to the original series. I can't tell if it's storywise accurate. However, Telltale should have gone the extra mile reading the books and delivering what we most probably never get to see on Amazon Prime. Regardless, it is a nice attempt to engage with the story, even though I don't think it adds much to the show, simply by the fact that it is a "prequel". Overall, the game feels cartoonish in art style and I don't have a problem with it. The story itself is rather solid but way too short. And I have to sday, I don't think we will see much more content as originally intended.
