Description
”Whose blood is that on the walls?” -Josie

Do you think you’ve got what it takes to be an actual superhero? Well, then you need to help Josie to beat the superhero training simulator, and to become the hero our world needs!

In this beautiful, hand-crafted precision platformer, you’ll play as Josie, aka. Sunblaze, with a mission to complete your superhero training. Your dad, a former superhero himself, built the training simulator dreaming of your journey to become a superhero. The simulator is full of puzzles, brain-tickling challenges, double jumps, dashes, spikes, drones... And a purrfect sidekick: the cat. You have got a cat. What else do you need?

Well, skills. That’s what you need. Do you think you’ve got ’em? Dive into Sunblaze now, and be the hero... called Sunblaze.

All you need is a simple story

The story takes place inside a training simulator, where Josie is being trained to be a superhero by her father. There’s witty dialogue, embarrassing moments and of course the most important part of the family — the cat!

Smooth and gameplay driven

There’s no need to take a boring pause as you complete a level in Sunblaze. The in-game simulator calculates and draws you the next level immediately as you complete one! It is a delight to look at, but remember to keep your head clear - the next level is about to start!

Did we mention Celeste, yet?

For those of us using Linux & co., you'll be pleased to know that the Windows build works with Wine, including controller. If you use Lutris, it'll be perfect. Worst case, antimicrox can tranlate xinput to keyboard. It's disappointing to see no Linux build, despite there being one for Steam and Humble Bundle. This isn't the first time GoG has done this, so I don't know if it has to do with Proton or GoG's policy, but I've learned to get used to the neglect. Or they just forgot we existed. Kind of like how GoG forgot they advertised Celeste. Speaking of which, people are eager to mention Celeste, so I'll join the bandwagon. Superficially, yes, it's like Celeste, in that it's a platformer with a gameplay loop that involves chipping a way at levels until you're skilled enough or you've memorized it well enough to brute force success (even if though that's not unique to Celeste). But, I think Sunblaze distinguishes itself. Yes, there's no wall jumping and the character has a rather meager jump height. It's also stylistically different with the bulbous, chibi-esque sprite work and the megaman-chic settings, and there's also some other platformer tropes that I won't spoil. But, I would also say the game is more puzzling. I mean this in the sense that, with Celeste, the question I was always asking myself was, "How to get more skilled?" "How many tries until I make this jump?" Even when I was stumped in Celeste, I never felt bad looking up a walkthrough, because the focal point of it was on the reflexes and precision; memorizing a big portion of some levels is a diminutive challenge by comparison. For how I experienced Sunblaze, I was more invested in the question of, "How to sequence my actions?" "When to jump?" The game's difficulty synergizes well with the challenge because it demands confidence while experimenting on a level. Sometimes true of Celeste, not always. Being said, "490 unique levels" to bite into, this is a thorough game that will sate a Celeste comedown.

Unity Analytics Beware

I know game devs probably don't know, but it is my duty to let everyone know when I find telemetry we can do nothing about in a game.

A wonderful blend of challenge and fun!

I usually do not write reviews as much as I used to. however I felt this one deserves a humble review. Sunblaze is a blend of quirky dad jokes, a bit of Celeste, some Super Meatboy, and its own unique style. I have to say from a person whom has seen many speed-runners like gamesof a plat-former, this one is def that game. Its good fun! The killer sound track, all vibe together for a really great game! Try out the demo, really solid!

Platforming Excellence

Sunblaze has you step into a superhero training simulator as the super cute heroine Josie, narrowly avoiding death thanks to your quick reflexes, sharp mind and growing skill. You're given a simple, tight moveset that meshes very well with clever level design that never feels unfair despite it's punishing difficulty. A significant part of the challenge lies in puzzling out how you are meant to navigate a level and the sequence in which you have to trigger and exploit obstacles as you run and jump through them. The main story is made up of six distinct chapters with their own distinct theming and exclusive obstacles, each of which meaningfully alters your approach to clearing levels. It's a lighthearted affair with a colourful aesthetic and a sweet narrative featuring a loving father-daughter relationship at it's core. The music strikes a good balance of keeping you hooked into the game while remaining chill enough to discourage the flaring of tempers. This is a truly wonderful indie platformer and I heartily recommend it to fans of 2D platforming. Playing it is so much fun that it's genuinely hard to put down.

A good platform game

This game is not available for Linux, but I've managed to play it with the Wine emulator. The game consists in a girl that can make double-jumps and has to get to the exit. There are 6 chapters and a lot of levels to pass.
