STAR WARS™ Rebellion

Fantastic game. This is a game that gives you control over many characters in the Star Wars universe, both movies and expanded universe. No one is safe from your excellence or ineptitude. The characters in this game can killed, permanently, or incapacitated or they can excell in several different areas of tasks that you can put before them. If you send a character on a diplomacy mission and this is successful that characters diplomacy skill will increase. You start off with a handful of characters and then you take the time to recruit others to your cause. Some characters may specialise in certain skills, Ackbar is fantastic leader and ship researcher, Lando is good in several areas, command, espionage, combat. You can even discover force sensitive characters that you can train to be jedi over time. This is a game where your imagination can really help immerse you in the universe. In this RTS you can speed up the clock or slow it down when you need to take the time to implement many commands. In this game you have to manage constructions yards for equipment, training facilities for troop recruitment and ship yards for space ships. All resource management can be managed by you if you wish or you can have help from your droid assistant. Combat can be handled with an autoresolve option or personally. The orders that you issue to your fleets and squadrons are relatively simplistic such as attack capital ships or fighters, approach by left flank or right etc. You also have full 3d control of the battlefield camera so you can view the effectivness of your orders. There is a love/hate relationship with many people for this game which I've never truely understood. This game allowed the player to choose the faction he/wanted and told them to go to town. To be able to use characters on missions without knowing that they would ever return is an exciting concept to me. This game is truely an original hidden gem of a Star Wars game and I recommend it.

I agree with LordTherion. My icons and whatnot are upside down and messed up. Does the game just need some patches and updates? Hope someone can help me.... Apart from that, I'd give this game a 4 or 5. It's nostalgia for me :) Looking forward to playing it properly and right side up. Thanks for the help.

A 4X game where you trying to control the galaxy (or meet certain objectives). You are in control of the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire. That includes planets, characters, ships, mercs, armies, drones, etc. The only possible negative thing is that the game runs in real time, it is not turn based. Which means later in the game you are going to find yourself to constantly change speed or even pause the game to manage everything. But, if you are a Star Wars fan and you are a 4X fan, this is a great game. I have played 100's of hours of it in the past and I plan on playing a lot more now. Hint, try to research and build at least one Interdiction Cruiser per fleet. It is worth its mass in gold.

The moment I saw it, I bought it. While it's an old game (that IS why you're on GOG, no?) - it's a great management sim which totally has the Star Wars look and feel. The events in campaign mode loosely follow the movie timeline - with events from the movies. And BTW you CAN play either side. The constant onslaught of events gives the feel of a galactic campaign, and your ability to build and use the various means at your disposal (Soldiers, fleets, guerillas, hero characters, and the list goes on) allows you to play in your own style. Do I want to bombard planets? Should I use guerillas, or build up resources for Naval offensives? Will I send Leia to gain a planet's favor? Shall I wait until I have super high tech? On the negative side, though, being older, it doesn't have the RTS elements with the same quality as Empire at War. The fleet battles are clunkier, and the ground battles are off-screen. That said, it is a more focused on the large-scale plan for the strategic and operational levels of the war. Overall, this is a great game if you like management sims and Star Wars.
