The events of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat unfold shortly after the end of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. Having discovered about the open path to the Zone center, the government decides to hold a large-scale military "Fairway" operation aimed to take the CNPP under control.

According to the operation's plan, the first military group is to conduct an air scouting of the territory to map out the detailed layouts of anomalous fields location. Thereafter, making use of the maps, the main military forces are to be dispatched. Despite thorough preparations, the operation fails. Most of the avant-garde helicopters crash. In order to collect information on reasons behind the operation failure, Ukraine's Security Service sends their agent into the Zone center.

From now on, everything depends on you.

The best of the 3

While there are a few minor issues with the game, like bad voice acting (hilarious at times) and slightly lower difficulty (compared to CS and SoC), Call of Pripyat is the most open and free of the bunch with it's huge maps, LOADS of side-quests and choices that shape the main story.
There is NO other game out there that manages to combine survival-horror and open-world like Call of Pripyat.

The most polished of the games

CoP gets everything that the previous two did right, and adds a little more. Almost all of the glaring gameplay issues from the previous installments are gone or at the very least have been lessened by new features. My only disappointment with this is that there isn't quite as many shoot outs like before since most of the enemies will be mutants (depending on how you play :) ).read more A tip for you newcomers to this game: Sometimes you will see you got an achievement. Those achievements aren't just for show; they give special benefits that help you! Check your in game PDA for details on them.

Although I believe the vanilla experience to be a decent one, which deserves at least one playthrough, what holds this game back from excellence is its lack of polish. I would strongly suggest the MISERY 2 mod for an intense, immersive, and even frightening experience. This mod basically accentuates the game's survival aspect and enhances the atmosphere. Unlike SoC, your behaviorread more here won't have as much of an impact on the ending, but certain choices do matter, thus it's possible to experience a variety of consequences throughout the game. SoC is more story driven, while CoP provides you with a simple purpose and gives you the freedom to traverse its 3 big maps how you please. Play nothing less than the master difficulty if you want the most realistic experience. Unlike other games, the hardest difficulty here doesn't just make you easier to kill; everyone becomes fragile. I simply love this game and can't recommend it enough to other post-apocalypse survival enthusiasts. There are zombies, too.
Now get out of here, stalker, and for god's sake, remember to throw a bolt.
