This is Space Crew: Legendary Edition. The legendarily challenging single-player strategic survival simulation game!
You are a captain in the United Defense Force, captain of your own star ship. Recruit your crew, customise your ship and head out to explore the galaxy, defending Earth against the mysterious extraterrestrial threat, known as the Phasmids! There will be challenges ahead. Crew members will be lost. Dangerous missions must be undertaken. Galactic Legends will be made!
Travel through the galaxy to defeat the threat to humankind across a range of sorties, including reconnaissance, bounty hunts, reclamation and NEW Away Team missions. Train your crew into an elite fighting force from Captain to Comms Officer to tackle stressful and deadly situations such as fighter attack and ship invasions, whilst also repairing systems and putting out the odd fire or two! Customise and upgrade your spaceship with improved weapons, armour, engines and more (even a custom paint job for extra style!)
Android Ambush
Android Ambush is a brand-new campaign to add to the core Space Crew adventure. Take on a droid army led by rogue androids, previously allied with the United Defence Force! Battle against a whole host of new Enemy Champions and ships across a new star system with new gear, liveries and upgrades available for victorious Captains to unlock. However, these androids don’t play by the same rules as the phasmids, so you’ll have to re-write your tactics from scratch.
Away Team Missions
Leave your ship and venture on foot with three of your crew onto outposts and large vessels in the all NEW Away Team missions, discoverable across both Space Crew campaigns. Selecting the right team will be critical for survival as Away Team missions can consist of exploration, puzzles, or combat… sometimes even against the clock!
Legendary Crew Members
A Legendary Edition needs legendary crew! Build and personalise your ultimate crew by rescuing and discovering legendary crew members with amazing abilities and superior stats. However, you won’t just be able to recruit these one-of-a-kind crew members, you’ll have to find them during rescue and Away Team missions or unlock them using codes from community competitions.
This game takes from Bomber Crew, WW2 game, and it shows.
So you feel space OPERA, they made the space ship with great space, with so few crew, so everybody has to run in corridors and so you rather feel like in a too big WW2 bomber for its crew. Devs did felt this, so in option you can add a gunner, but it was not to be played with.
Too, WW2 game was in "flat" 3D, atmosphere with 3 heights. In space it's real 3D, and the camera was not adapted. Too, often what to be done is not clear when in missions, the success comes by trying.
Imagine a game like Space Haven, but every time you want a crew member to do anything – like tie their shoes - you have to select them, zoom in, zoom out, and click three different buttons. And better be quick about it, otherwise they die in a horrible way.
There are 4 types of missions; "clear all enemies", "escort/protect", "gather/scan/hack objects", "away team to station X".
There are 3 types of 'areas', "one clear space with some random objects", "one with asteroids", "one with random hazards".
Every mission you gather experience points and funds. The experience points count for a difficulty tracker; the more XP the harder the missions get, the more enemies are thrown into your face.
randomize above missions; combined with your "experience points" as dificulty, and add one a few of above area's and you have a full description of what this game offers.
The controls are cumbersome. Zoom all the way in to view your ships layout, to command your crew. Zoom out to have an outside view; but... to control your ships heading 'right mouse click', which zooms to a akward 'first-person' alike view; where you now have to 'scan' across the universe to hold your crosshair on the mission object long enough to highlight.
Game progression is very slow, somewhere 1/3 of the game you probably have most upgrades unlocked. At that point there's no real goal to continue the game, as everything will be the same, over and over and over again.
This game is not worth the full price in any way. Questionable in discount.
After the first 3 or 4 missions you realize that you've experienced about 80% of the game. It had a frustrating combination of being almost entirely hands off with the space combat, to the point where you just highlight enemies and click the odd button or two to activate powers, and too micro heavy with the crew, you have to explicitly order them where to stand and to put out fires and the like, which leaves you with the worst of all worlds. I recommend looking for better alternatives.
If you know Bomber Crew than you know this game. The only problem is visibility, sometimes it's hard to find an enemy quickly. Despite this I still thoroughly enjoyed this game.
