World War III has come and gone and, as one of the few survivors, you opted to hide out in your fancy-ass penthouse at the Skyhill Hotel while things settled down. Life was good until you noticed your supplies were running out. When you headed downstairs, you discovered that mutants had filled the building, and the only way to fight them off was to craft weapons while you solve puzzles to get out.
Making your way through SKYHILL is dangerous. Everything is out to kill you and your stamina is weak. It’s clear that your character did not spend those three months in blissful relaxation working out. But there is no time to waste any more…
Turn-based RPG gameplay in an uncommon setting
Randomly generated map for each new session
Stylish, gritty and fresh art design
Level up, craft weapons and search for useful things and food to survive
Face an army of bizarre creatures and enemies on your way down
This game is typical that can be described as game for mobile devices and nothing more. Simple story, boring gameplay full of random, that sometimes make game impossible to pass through. That`s interesting only for first hour. Generally, better skip and don't waste your time on this.
The game play is what others say is, simple and repetitive, and that isn't always a bad thing, some of us WANT a simple engine with simple gameplay, we're given a concert goal (get to the bottom of the hotel) with bits of narrative and mystery thrown in... but... The game has three endings, one is confusing and befuddling, another is scary and horrible implications, but at least it's a conclusion, the 'True ending' that requires you to look up a password on-line in real life ... turns the experience into a grand mockery of your spent time and energy, and makes all the detective work and narrative stitching together you've been doing a joke.
This game is simple, and repetitive. Each game can last as long as roughly 30min. Every game is randomly generated, so in theory it is very replayable, but it is just so repetitive (especially combat). I played this game a few times, but I won't be touching it anymore, just boring.
Considering the quality of some games that you can get for the same price, I feel quite disappointed.
This game looks simple and does not have any depth, as someone already pointed out it can be good mobile port to kill time. Biggest flaw of this game is randomly generated luck for your character. Usually you have to restart it for 5-10 times till it actually provides you with some survival kit to start out. Example: you start your game with empty pockets, first 3 floors are completely empty (no weapon, medkits or food) but it has one enemy whom you have to fight bare handed and good luck to win that battle because next enemy is right around the corner. Having such setup means you die. Another flaw of this game is very strange crafting/leveling system. It offers some decent food recipes but weapon crafting bloated with schematics you'll never use (because you won't be able to level up to have required attributes and because it takes a lot of crafting for it - more likely you won't find all materials and if you do it can be taken away from you because game "needs to repair electricity" on some floors or something and it takes crafting materials up to generators and you will need many of materials to craft that generator). Because of such flaws game feels like mobile port and gets boring/irritating very fast. It took me 2 evenings to beat it on normal mode and try some runs on hard. Consider it as an amusement for 1-2 evenings if you're into survival games but be warned, it is not very deep or balanced game.
Played Linux port from offline installer (which is older than steam version btw, steam updated their game to 1.1.20 in 2017, gog game is 1.1.19 in 21019), no issues found.
Motivation
was just looking for a new rogue-like game. i'm a sucker for the genre.
wrote this review cause i was suprised of the many bad reviews, i checked on other sites (apple store, steam) where it has a more favorable rating, which finally tipped me towards buying it.
+Price
i mention this cause it often seems to heavily influence ur perception of the game.
i bought it during a sale, and i didn't regret it.
+Gameplay
it's ur typical rogue-like where u tend to hate ur everyday rng god quickly, but much like with FTL, u stick to it, despite dying way too often. (not saying it is anywhere nearly as good as FTL)
it's like a simpler version of sots the pit, for those who know the game.
100 floors in this case, but just alot less rooms to clear.
~Game Depth, Detail
i actually enjoyed the simplicity, and i felt it was a clear design choice.
Just thought the game would have truely benefited from a few additional types of enemies.
+Story
has 3 endings, and i enjoyed the grim setting and piece by piece story telling.
Each run u find new fragments.
+Verdict
fun, simple, rogue-like.
guess thanks to all the bad reviews my expectations where low and i ended up being positively suprised.
i'm somewhere on my 20th run and i still enjoy playing around with different perks and weapon choices. hope the nay-sayers don't keep u away from this fun pastime. =)
