Discover the legacy and embark on the journey to Amerzone. Wishlist now!

From the creator of Syberia 1, Syberia 2, experience Benoit Sokal's fifth game.

At the base of a cliff on Sagorah Island, 82 year-old American billionaire Walter Jones is found dead next to his life's work; a massive Art Deco tower he had dreamed would become an elite getaway for international jet-setters. The only clues found at the scene include his wheelchair, abandoned at the edge of the cliff, and multiple scratches on his face. One of these scratches appears to have been made by a woman. Ten people were present on the island at the time of his death, among them the heirs to his vast fortune and legacy. Was his death an accident or murder?

Players assume the role of Jack Norm, a federal agent turned private dectective, who is taking a break in the atolls of the Indian Ocean when an old friend requests his assistance with the case. Jack has just three days to complete 10 gameplay missions, collecting valuable clues and storing evidence in his PPA (Personal Police Assistant). He will interrogate each of the 10 unusual suspects, using his keen deduction skills to determine who among them may have the most to gain from Walter Jones's death.

KEY POINTS:

  • An engaging and innovative game.
  • Choose between two styles of gameplay to carry out your quest: Time Mode or Adventure Mode
  • Another classic adventure game by French author Benoît Sokal
  • Interrogate each of the 10 unusual suspects, using your keen deduction skills to determine who among them may have the most to gain from Walter Jones's death.

An Excellent if Flawed Investigation

This is undeniably Benoit Sokal (Syberia) from the art deco buildings to the lush but bleak landscapes and quirky characters going about their lives. Know what you're getting into here: this is NOT a traditional point and click game. You will be gathering evidence and combining items, but more often you will be comparing testimonies, checking fingerprints and footprints and comparing them to the suspects who follow little schedules all across the island. It's pretty open ended: ask anyone anything anytime until you get the answer you need to progress. There's some pretty deep lore about the hotel and the people you will need to read carefully to understand the nuances at play. But some things do come across as a bit arbitrary. I was stuck on the beach until I realized I wasn't supposed to gather evidence or make up my mind about the crime scene, I was ONLY supposed to determine if there was anything to suggest foul play and then send the info to my personal computer. You will get into some situations where you think ahead of the game but if you keep an eye on the specific question you're supposed to answer in every section you should be oriented correctly to follow up the trail of clues and testimonies. Another little issue is you do a LOT of running around. You're going to go back and forth constantly so it's a good thing the landscape it pretty. There's some niggling issues with evidence seemingly obvious but it taking multiple checks to verify and there's the issue you'll notice that characters do not move their lips in conversations, but this didn't completely destroy the mystique and the joy of discovery and investigation this game has to offer I think. Don't go in expecting either Frogware or Syberia. This is a different beast of talking, comparing, and exploring to your heart's content (especially if you turn off the time limit!)

Underrated game for a rainy day

Note: I got this game for like less than $1 on sale. I bought the game back in the day when it released since it was made by Benoit Sokal, the man behind the excellent Syberia series. This game is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. The atmosphere is absolutely amazing, an excellent game for a rainy day. It's super low pace, mostly talking, relatively claustrophobic area and almost no traditional puzzles. The game also runs like crap because it's only playable in 4:3 format. This is insane since you can even play Broken Sword in 16:9 and the game was released in 2007 (same year as Crysis). Resolution is also really low. Nevertheless, the Art Deco style, the careful thoughts from the protagonist, the excellent voice actors, the depressing state of this insane idea to put a luxury tower on an island is poetic and beautiful. I've completed the game probably 5-6 times, which is most likely more than the majority of people who bought this. The game just has this depressive feel to it which can be a good thing on a rainy october day or when feeling low. It's one of a kind really. Get it on sale and adjust your expectations accordingly.

Great and Unique Game!!

This is not your typical Point-and-Click game. This is a masterpiece!! The story and setting in and of themselves are fantastic. The intrigues/webs between the different characters are exquisitely done. The Personal Police Assistant tool makes it simple to understand what you should be focusing on at any given time to solve 1 of the 13 mandates. Completing all 13 gets you to a successful conclusion. The mandates do not necessarily need to be completed in a direct linear order, which allows for a bit of variation in gameplay. Overall, I thought this game was outstanding!!! Beautiful artwork/backgrounds, intriguing characters, a great story, easy game interface, this gem has it all. I played it for roughly a week straight. Each night I would go to sleep asking questions, why/how did such and such occur and by whom? Etc. Each morning I would wake up thinking I had some solution ideas and would get back at. Thoroughly engrossing gaming experience. For the price, it is a no-brainer, pick this gem up now!!

Good/not great but worth the purchase

Couldn't resist the holiday discount and didn't regret it, and even at full price it's worth it, though it isn't without its flaws. But first the good: I think the overall game play, interface, and graphics and scenery/overall look and feel of the game was very good. And it had plenty of depth in terms of different characters and backgrounds that you uncover as you go along, props to the writing. The acting/voiceovers were also well done. So while my list of complaints below is longer, don't take that wrong: if you're looking for a whodunit story, this is worth the buy. Just make sure to have a walkthrough on hand. The bad: first, the conversations became very annoying at times because our hero would often ask the same question multiple times, sometimes even within the same conversation, wasting a lot of time. Or he would ask questions which make no sense to ask, again wasting time (like wth with asking everyone if they are medical experts? What a stupid question). Also at times the questions you could ask made no sense given where you were in the story. Also whoever made these games really needs to hire a professional writer/proofreader. Some of the mistakes in this game were embarrassing. But my biggest complaint is the way you had to solve a given question to move on in the game ("progression")....you have to input a combination of documents, testimonies, etc to get an exact match and move on but IMO often what was required either didn't make sense or wasn't at all intuitive and numerous other combinations made as much if not more sense, and they should have allowed that those combinations would also work. I would have never finished this game without a walkthrough because of that...after a number of tries often I said "screw it" and just looked up what was needed. But all that said, again IMO the game is definitely worth it.
