Interesting idea, Poor implementation
I did not get far... Overall: D Art: ??? Concept: B/A Combat: F Story: ??? Rather than drop-down drag-out fights between a player and nearly equal opponents, you power through the enemy mobs and the enemy mobs work to take you down via debuffs... Asymmetric fights can be an interesting change of pace if done right. This was not done right. In just the first area... - I was facing repeated stun-locks of my character against as many as 7 opponents in a single fight. Mid-game, after introducing mechanics to deal with the stunlocks, this might be interesting. This mechanic belongs nowhere near the 'first taste of the combat system.' This mechanic also exacerbates the second issue of the combat system... - Each enemy's individual turn *can* take upwards of 5 seconds to perform, and can require active action by the user to dismiss messages. Consider being in a fight with 7 weak opponents. Because there are so many, they trivially stunlock you, and maintain that lock for a slow burn of 25% of your health (so call that ~5 minutes). You get a single option to act. and you can easily be stunlocked again before your character actually does anything at all... so one fight against 7 weak foes can take 30+ minutes to clear, even if it's all 1-hit kills for you. Fights are usually faster, but when the starter zone has over 30 fights to clear it? That is not a grind I care for. If the game has a way to deal with those problems, it wasn't apparent in the initial info-dump, and without non-painful combat to look to as a 'how fights snould go' nor do I have any equipment available to purchase that might remedy it, and no apparent grinding of stats...? I saw no option other than 'slow grind'. - A brief trial of the game's "easy mode" did not appear to address the core issues, rather it mainly reduced the total number of foes, and combat itself appeared at a glance to be unchanged. The game falls into my 'unberable grind' bucket.
