You’ve spent 20 long years living in the confines of your overbearing mothers garage, your father mysteriously vanished before you were born. But hey, you had plenty of time to work out and dream about the wonders of the world. Sucks to be you though, people eat slime, corruption is rife and everyone wants to fight you… But maybe you can find your father and become the ‘dark fist’ people whisper about, somehow you could actually be humanity's savior, the one who uncovers the super secret secrets of the Goodness Corporation… Or not. It’s a choose your own adventure, stay in the garage if you want.

It's been 20 long years since a nameless cool guy rose from the streets, punched the big bad, found his father and everyone was really happy or something. Welcome to the future, it's corrupt, sea shells have replaced toilet roll and everything's cyberpunk now. Walk the same, but now neon, streets as you're thrown into an adventure filled with hilarity, 80’s nostalgia and punching. Even more punching than before.

Punch, kick and cheat your way through, if you want. Becoming the best damn fighter aint easy, it takes time, dedication, dollars and training! Increase your stats and techniques, plan your match and create your own incredibly awesome school of fighting! Sounds better than losing and everyone laughing at you. Whilst nothing beats good old fashioned blood, sweat and tears, neuro training and illegal software sure sound tempting. Even if there is a slight risk you’ll be exposed as a fraud and your last brain cell will pack up and leave.

Life in the rat race is fast paced, time consuming and requires effective management to survive, Punch Club 2 is the same! It’s literally a simulation game! Manage your time and funds, whilst climbing to the top of the fighting leagues, solving crimes, working for the police, mob, mafia and about anyone else you cross paths with. Completing quests will give you access to new fighting schools, moves, dollars, good person points and even the Lion Queen on VHS! Stop reading the GOG page and get grinding!

The first rule of Punch Club, is tell everyone about Punch Club, wishlist it now or prepare to fight (for legal reasons, we won’t actually fight you).

Too much AI cheating, ignoring stats and skills

The game is 5 starts for everything (graphics, lore, music, art...) but combat, which is 0 stars because it's broken to make the experience intentionally unfair: -Stats are useless now, enemies with 25% of your stats can easily beat you. It looks like stats are now some kind of variable hidden threshold, where if you reached it the enemy could be won after several attempts, but if you didn't, the game will keep cheating on you (ignoring all stats, skills and whatever) to make you lose. -Initiative (the game mechanic allegedly responsible for determining who attacks first and when) is also useless for you because many enemies can attack you as much as they want while ignoring this. When the enemy AI decides to start cheating, the enemy fighter will start attacking you non-stop with 0 initiative consumption, while your character stands there doing nothing, despite having full initiative. -Energy is working except for when the enemy AI starts cheating to make you lose, in which case enemies start ignoring this stat and endlessly hitting you without response (ignoring your block/dodge). The closer the enemy bar is to being depleted, the worst shameless cheating will occur. I know there are people who enjoy this kind of roge-like unfair mechanics, so to cater to them you could add another difficulty level with clear indications that the AI can and will cheat on you at will to make you lose. But leave the normal and easy difficulty levels free of cheating, because creating a super elaborate stat and skills system just to proceed to throw it out the window when you are about to win ... is evil. I hope the developer will fix this in a future patch, because it's ruining the otherwise great content.

Good potential, bad balance and pacing

If you liked the first part, you might also like this one but there are some things you should know first: In short: Story: fine Pop-culture references: quite nice actually Self-awareness of developers: great (they joke about their lazyness at one point :-D ) Gameplay: Well, most of the time you're rather the trainer of a fighter, than the fighter himself, but that's fine. Balancing Flaws: Don't expect automatic superiority only because you've triple the stats than your opponent. "Deckbuilding" with the skills you got is very important here. And there are many, many skills. Most of the early one are inefficient though and you won't be able to fill in most of the skillslots for quite a while... for many people it feels like the AI is cheating, but you're just lacking in actually good skills. This improves around midgame but Pacing... this is what makes the game incredible boring over quite long parts of the game. When there is story happening, it's actually quite nice. But most of the time you'll just repeat and grind. What makes it worse are the minigames: Training pupils in your own gym: Exciting at first and driving the story a bit but becomes tedious and boring. Policework is even much much worse. You click a button and walk on patrols where never anything will happen. You click a button to do paperwork or "sozialize". That's it... don't miss your shift to get more and more bored! And if you grind through it all you'll be overwhelmed with an unending exposition dump right before the end. Not saying there is no story in between, there is and it's fine but there are often grind-phases in between and they are ... just... soooo.... long! Summary: Great content, very nice references (also to the previous game) but extremely bad paced distribution over the length of the game

Skills Matter. AI does not cheat.

If you've played the previous game you know what to expect. It is a time management game. You use time to either work to gain money or train to build up stats (Strength, Agility, or Stamina). You also need to use money to buy food, or pay for training equipment to increase effectiveness. This ultimately results in fights, which are an auto-battler. This is where people have some trouble. Compared to last game, the fighting skills you choose matter much more than your stats. Even if you have 25% or more stats than your opponent, you have to carefully choose which skills to use to counter what your opponent is doing. Each opponent is like a puzzle to solve. This has been frustrating for some users and reviewers who think the game is too hard, or is cheating, because they don't want to engage with the games mechanics. If you enjoy management games combined with the puzzle/strategy element of developing a well-rounded set of skills for specific opponents, you will enjoy this. The pixel graphics are great, the music is good, the style and humor are Ok, the story gets somewhat interesting toward the end. My only complaints are the initial requirements for completing jobs in chapter 2 are very tight, so be prepared for that. Also, final chapter is rushed. There's basically a bunch of "missions" that are just expedition dumps leading up to the final boss and it ends with plenty of room for a part 3. If you liked the first game, or like management/strategy games plenty of humor and pop-culture references get the game. I'd personally wait for a discount, but I had fun.

Game feels unfinished

(Cons) (Annoying grind) Things in the way of training early game (Mom) and semi softlock positions late game if you don't choose the right skills. (Bugs) Bought the game 2 years after release and came across bugs that prevent questlines and they're out here making DLC for the game instead of fixing them. (No Spoilers btw) (Awful Rushed Final Act) Made my entire playthrough feel meaningless I Didn't expect it to be that bad like how some reviews said but just know. ITS THAT BAD Expect nothing to get resolved and all buildup for nothing. (Pros) (Combat) is fun and interesting with alot of different options and improves on the first quite a bit. (Humor) Games Pretty funny 4/10 It had so much potential but doesn't live up to the 1st game.
