tl; dr if quality storytelling and terrific worldbuilding is your thing, then "Planet of Lana" is highly recommended for a quiet afternoon. For the asking price
I just finished the game after buying it at launch and it was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. It's similar to games such as "Limbo" or "Inside", but with a clearly defined story and adventurous spirit.
Beautiful art, amazing soundtrack, and quality sound design elevate this puzzle platformer. Players looking to spend an afternoon of their time with a 4-5 hour game would be hard pressed to find something better. Sure, the puzzles are not that challenging, nor particularly varied. The small, furry companion named "Mui" is adorable and adds some variety to the gameplay. But the journey is well worth it -
Very glad I picked this game up. The art is wonderful, the music is tremendous, and it tells a focused story without ever wasting the player's time. The puzzles were never too much of a challenge, but that was a positive for me as I just wanted to keep moving on. As others have pointed out, this is a bit like playing Another World or Flashback for the first time, but with hugely better art and gameplay design. Highly recommended.
I bought this game because, as someone else said, the trailer reminded me of Inside and Limbo. I was nicely surprised by the overall creativity invested in this game. The soundtrack is, for the lack of a better word, perfect. The gameplay is involving, the story is touching, the ending is epic! A beautiful game not only for when you want a break from the shooters or RPGs. This is a gem!
Thank you!
Planet of LANA is the perfect syntax between videogame history with a look to the future, fishing hands down from the imagery created by Another World / FLASHBACK before and Limbo / Inside after, to create a dystopian journey that mainly outlines the nuances of friendship. A further piece of the importance of the indie game in the social and stagnant structure of modern gaming.
