Description

Lose yourself in the world of New York, 2329, where immortality comes at a price that someone has to pay. Following a near-death experience, Detective James Karra takes an off-the-books case from his chief with only the help of a young police liaison, Sara Kai, to assist him. Time reveals all as they risk everything in pursuit of a killer, uncovering the dark secrets of the city's elite.

Experience a noir adventure in an alternate future of New York City in 2329; technology has advanced to offer humans eternal life, allowing consciousness to be stored in memory banks or transferred from one body to another. That is, if you can afford the subscription.

See through the eyes of Mortality Department Detective James Karra on his hunt for a serial killer who targets the city’s elite citizens. Investigate crime scenes using his time manipulation augmentation and advanced technology to reconstruct events leading up to each murder and uncover clues that lead to the horrifying truth behind the murders.

Lose yourself in a dystopian future through this meaningful and original interactive detective story, that explores the dangers of transhumanism and immortality. In a world of eternal life and vanishing morality, you, a hardened detective, must navigate the lines of right and wrong in a society where death is a distant memory.

Utilising the power of Unreal Engine 5, Nobody Wants to Die pushes the boundaries of storytelling, combining photorealistic graphics and a distinctly unique narrative experience.

Outstanding!

I checked-out some reviews on Youtube before deciding whether to buy this game. There were mixed reviews, including at least one which said that they didn't understand the story, but I soon realised that was due to lack of critical thinking, they didn't even try, just saw it all as a button-pushing exercise. I'm so glad I bought this and ignored the negative reviews. A fascinating and engaging story and the investigation techniques are superb, really make you feel like you're involved. I regularly go backwards & forwards, to determine if I'm missing something. The graphics are absolutely amazing and really give you a feeling of claustrophobia in some areas, yet show the grand scale of the City when you're out in the open, a nice mix. I did have one issue, I got stuck in some scenery and had to quit & restart my save to correct it, but besides that, no other issues so far. Got it earlier today and I've only just stopped playing, to write this review :-). It won't be to everyone's liking, but if you love a good detective story, then you will likely enjoy this.

Why does the game get such good reviews?

The gameplay ruins this game. The gameplay is limited to reconstructing crime scenes to find clues or connecting clues from crime scenes to make deductions. I've played many games that are narrative-heavy and light on the gameplay and loved them. So, I was very excited to buy the game. The problem with this game is the gameplay is boring and frustrating. If you don't do things exactly the right way in the right order, you can become stuck with no way to progress other than loading the last checkpoint. For example, after the first crime scene, which was pretty straightforward, in your apartment you need to connect the clues from the first crime scene to make some deductions. During this process there were multiple instances where clues seemed to me to be logically related, but the game wouldn't let me connect them. And some clues that the game let me connect didn't really make sense to me. Essentially, I had to resort to brute force and try every clue with every other clue to see what the game would let me connect. Not much fun and very aggravating. Another example, on the second crime scene I found several hotspots and reconstructed parts of the crime scene. But then there were no other active hotspots. So, I carefully searched every inch of the crime scene and found no additional hotspots. I spent a good 30 minutes going over the entire crime scene inch by inch. Finally, out of frustration I went to YouTube for a walkthrough. I saw that I'd discovered the hotspots in a different order from the order shown in the YouTube walkthrough. Once I loaded the checkpoint and did things in the same order as the YouTube video, I was able to complete the second crime scene. So, proceeded until the third crime scene. Same thing as the second crime scene. I didn't process hotspots in the right order and couldn't proceed. So, I gave up, uninstalled the game, and contacted GOG for a refund. Thank goodness for GOG's refund policy!!

Amazing cinematic narrative adventure

Nobody Wants to Die features exceptional storytelling, a meticulously crafted dystopian-noir atmosphere, stunning visuals, outstanding sound, and music design, detective mechanics flawlessly implemented, a compelling plot, and well-profiled and developed characters. It stands as an excellent cinematic narrative adventure. I highly recommend it if you like the type of game and genre, and I rate it a 9 out of 10. NB. I wish its availability on GOG had not been delayed for days because that made me play it on another platform, since I had been following the project for many months and this time I couldn't wait.

A masterpiece!

This is an interactive movie more than a game, but it is fantastic! The graphics, the voice acting, the setting, the story - all amazing! I wouldn't say this is even a short game really. I do agree that this game does too much hand holding as others have said, but it didn't detract at all from the overall experience. If you liked Blade Runner, Cyberpunk, Bioshock, etc, and are happy to be part of a movie, I strongly recommend this game. If you're looking for interactivity and open world gameplay this isn't for you.

The game is not too short.

Some say the game is too short. I don't feel that way. The ending was sudden and unexpected for me, but I still thought the length of the game was very good. Anything else would be unnecessarily drawn out. The setting is great and immediately draws you in. Feels like an interactive film. So I could use more games like this. The voice was a bit quiet compared to the rest, but that may also be a personal preference. Because I have this problem often. The story was also a bit more complex for me because I don't speak English very well. The German subtitles help, but they don't convey as much as language.
