A glowing review & Settings I recommend

I recommend using a controller and getting an S rank on each stage before moving on to the next one. It really made the game last and prepared me for the next stage. I played Lunistise with a gamecube controller via the 8bitdo gbros adapter. Settings I recommend: Keep Smooth Turning set to ON (It helps with platforming. I played a bit with it off and I was terrible) Player Shadow set to ON (Puts a shadow under you when midair so you know where you will fall) Vertical Camera 200% with Unlock Vertical Camera set to OFF CRT Filter ON and High-Res Mode OFF (My personal preference. It has a really good CRT Filter) I set Controller Deadzone to 5% and Sensitivity to 125% BUT what feels right will differ depending on the controller you use. I went into this game totally blind. I just saw it was a new game on gog and that it looked good based on the first 3 screenshots. I read the first paragraph of the description and then I bought it because it was only $5. And wow, I did not expect it to be so good. I don't normally write reviews but I really loved playing Lunistise. It's is a good 3D platformer. It can be little hard but it's good. Even when I was having trouble beating stage 4, I never got upset. Then it just clicked with me and I understood the stage gimmick. I think I will end up booting it up every once in a while just to replay some stages. Like stage 5, so good. I got both S ranks in each act at the same time in that stage. (Had to restart the level a few times to do that but it was fun.) On all the other stages I focused on collectables my first try and then replayed the stage to get the "Zero Resets" S rank. I really like how you don't have to do both on the same run for it to count. I hope you give it a try and enjoy it as much as I did.

First Class Platformer

It's fun. What more could you ask for? Though don't be fooled, the platforming isn't always as comfy as the look may imply. Nonetheless definitely worth giving a try!

Oldschool platformer style is still gold

If you've been missing the good old platformer era, I don't think you can do better than Lunistice. Self described as "simple and affordable fun", I think it's a perfect description of what to expect and a glowing proof that simplicity in design can still trump gimmicks to deliver a better game. While relatively short in size, there's plenty to do in earning S ranks in every level and unlocking extra characters (with different movesets too). I might be biased because I've been finding modern platformers exceedingly easy, but I'll give special mention to the level design. It hits a sweet spot of being challenging without being overwhelming. Hana has her full moveset from the first stage and you're encouraged to explore options to overcome whatever the next stage will throw at you. It's a testament to how good the level design is that the game doesn't need to increase complexity in controls to maintain a perfect difficulty curve. You have 3D movement, a jump, and an attack. You can create unique interactions between these and that's all you need from start to finish without ever getting stale. All in all, It perfectly captures the essence of old school platformers in everything it sets out to do. The aesthetic is spot on. I missed the "floating blocks" design where things didn't needed to make sense why they're there as much as elevating the gameplay. The soundtrack is an instant classic. A hit on all sixes if you ask me.

Great platformer, especially for kids

I bought this for my 7-year-old nephew to play and he has enjoyed it a lot. The controls are simple, but the handling and level design is really good. The game looks and sounds really good, especially if you love that retro vibe. The game starts out easy, but ramps up the difficulty over the levels in a reasonable progression. The later levels have some challenging bits, but the overall difficulty is always reasonable. We had fun finding the hidden letters. The game isn't very long, but also doesn't overstay its welcome. I'm glad I bought this game. It's a great game for kids, but everyone who appreciates well executed platforming can enjoy this game. And at this price, it's a steal. My nephew gave the game 5 stars. Played on Linux using Bottles with no issues.

This game is awesome.

Of all the games that I bought during summer sale, this is my favorite one, and it's because it's pure candy. It doesn't go heavy on story, it doesn't make you go through a long tutorial, or bore you with some 5 minute long cutscene right at the start. You do get a little bit of context to start the game off, but then you're off to the races, and man, is it fun. Like I said, this game is pure candy. The worlds are all exploding with color, the music hits just right, and the gameplay is tight. This is a running game, much like Sonic the Hedgehog, where you'll be sliding down grind rails, platforming to different heights, and going through loop de loop's. Actually, if someone were to reskin this game with Sonic assets, this could easily pass for a Sonic the Hedgehog demake (it kind of makes me feel like this would have been perfect as a Sonic launch game for the Sega Saturn). The only reason why this isn't a 5 star review from me is because the game is on the shorter side. I started my play through last night at around 10pm, and I finished just a bit after midnight. The game consists of 7 worlds, 2 stages each. I would have really liked to have seen each world have a boss fight, which really would have boosted the game's length, however, the entire game is a series of quickly paced platforming stages one after the next until the end. The stages themselves are pretty lenghty though. This is a very good game, and a total surprise for me. The demo had me hooked, and the full game did not disappoint, length considered. It's very rare that someone like me ever plays a game from start to finish (even short ones) but I just couldn't stop this after I started. I should note that this game does have replayability post game, although it's basically a replay of the base game from a "different perspective" (trying not to spoil it for anyone). If you like fast paced platformers, you can't go wrong with this one. If you liked the demo, don't even hesitate. This is a definite buy.
